The challenge had come as a surprise to Marrow. After all, no one had really shown any interest in her for some time. There had been the time that one of Zevulun's sons had tried to herd her back to the Prairie, but that had ended with the kind older stallion apologizing and sending her home. She'd wanted to leave for awhile, but something had kept her tethered to the Savanna. She'd been a princess of sorts at a time when her father was still alive, but he'd been gone for awhile. Zira had stepped up when Kvasir had realized the life of a herd leader was not for him. She respected them both, greatly, but she wanted more than they could offer.
She felt numb as she watched the battle, and despite Zira's experience the golden mare was the first to step away. She could tell from the twisted expression on Zira's face and the tightening of her ears that she was not happy. Marrow pressed her muzzle against the irate mare's shoulder as she passed, wordlessly following the stallion into the sea.
She says nothing during the entirety of the swim, even if he said something to her. When finally they reach Paradise, Marrow slowly walks onto the beach. She is immediately aware of the heat, so much thicker than the Savanna's dry heat. And the green, oh it was so green! Her eyes widen slightly as she takes in the jungle before her, never having seen such a thing. She'd done some exploring of Luthien, but it was...flat and boring, for the most part. The Thicket was dull green and sharp twigs, and the Forest wasn't much better. The Prairie was the Savanna, except a few more flowers.
This was...Paradise.
"You didn't have to fight her," she says finally, turning her pale blue gaze to him. "Though I suppose I should feel honored you felt I was worth the effort." she laughs, her nostrils quivering with a snort. "Shall I throw myself at the feet of my captor and beg for mercy? Or would you be willing to tell me your name without all the theatrics?" It's hard to tell what she's thinking, a daring glint in her eye as she steps closer to him, only to shake the sea water from her damp coat with a laugh before trotting a few paces down the sandy beach to explore more of her new home.
