you could argue that Kahnle getting 7.75 for 1-2 innings work is in line with Flaherty getting 25 mill for 5-6 inning, although Flaherty only goes every 5-6 games

Scarcity may the the reason. Also you need a couple studs to eat innings. If you go 'bullpen day' every day, your bullpen will be exhausted. Still giving Skubal 40 mill a year for 6-10 years when he never throws 100 pitches seems crazy the way the game is played today.

I'm only talking about salaries moving relative to previous years (and relative to each other).
