Tino blinked and froze upon hearing and seeing Nico. He wasn’t even sure he consciously had gone into protective mode or maybe it was more of an automatic response. His ears relaxed at the same time his body lost his tension sorry Nico, I didn’t realise it was you he says a little sheepishly, somewhat embarrassed at having effectively challenged the lead stallion, even if he was unaware it had been him. Nico would be well within his right to punish him, although he got the sense Nico wasn’t angry at him.
Nodding he stepped out of the older stallions way as Raini invited them both to come see the new little one who had finished her first meal for now and was tucked to her mothers side for warmth. With a full belly and warmth settling into her the cremello overo filly was now sleepy, her blue eye half closed. She perked up at seeing other though.
Tino hesitated, feeling a little bit like an outsider on a precious moment I won’t interrupt you guys any more he said quietly turning to leave. It was his mother’s voice that made him pause and look back though.
Raini could sense how uneasy her son was at having effectively defended her and her newborn from what he hadn’t realised was Nico. She knew how much he admired and looked up to him, respected him but Tino was at that age where he was finding his feet, aware of what was required of a stallion and wanting to prove himself but not quite knowing how to do that. Tino she called out as he went to leave it’s ok, you haven’t done anything wrong she said gently, before purposely catching Nico’s gaze, hoping he would also reassure the young stallion as well.
At his mothers word and urging he hesitating before turning and slowly approaching, his gaze kept going to the older stallion though, unease warring their depths. When he was close enough Raini reached for her eldest son, her muzzle brushing it against his own in a familial greeting, something which he return.
