Will there ever be a way? Will my heart return to white?

Mizuki
Will there ever be a place for the broken in the light?

Mizuki is pleasantly surprised that Nicodemus returned her affectionate gesture without hesitation. For a few brief blissful moments she closed her eyes and enjoyed the soft touch of his skin against hers. Opening her dark brown eyes she gazed directly into his blue eyes and got lost in them for a moment. There was an affection there that made her heart skip a beat. No one had ever gazed at her like that before. This was a different type of love that she had not experienced before.

It’s true that she had been wary and distrustful of him when they had first met, but she would have treated any stranger the same. At first he was simply the generous stallion that had offered shelter for her and her brother when fate washed them up on this island. Now she had witnessed how big his heart was. He was her guardian and possibly her lover too. Mizuki wasn’t entirely sure where she stood amongst his ranks of mares but she was content to share him. She had to, this was the way of a herd mare.

Ears twitch as she listens to his words. She nodded her head to confirm that she understood and promptly replied, “I sleep peacefully.” Her accent was still very thick and perhaps her grammar was incorrect but did that really matter? As long as they understood how each other felt deep inside wasn’t that the main thing? Now Mizuki wasn’t sure if Nicodemus’ question was literal or whether he was trying to gently coax some other piece of information out of her. Logically his next question would be about their unborn baby, which the young gray more was more than happy to indulge him with.

Slowly she angled her body towards him so he could clearly see her rounded stomach. “Our baby,” she began and moved her head down to her side to place a kiss upon her ribs as it was getting increasingly more difficult to reach her abdomen. “They are strong,” she states proudly before turning her attention back to Nicodemus, “I can feel them kick.” Although he had not been the father of the first child, Mizuki wouldn’t be surprised if the painted stallion had some concerns or doubts surrounding this foal considering how she had tragically lost her first child. There were some mares that could never carry healthy children and Mizkui prayed that she didn’t have that curse.
