There is a look in her eyes that was making his skin feel hot. Ashitaka had not felt this way about anyone before. He was usually reserved and built relationships with others gradually over time. Was this an instant bond? Was this love at first sight? Or was it simply that time of year and he was starting to lose control over his urges. He didn’t like not feeling calm and composed. He was not the sort of stallion to participate in a one night stand, even if the mare was a willing participant. It would just be wrong to indulge in one’s primal instincts like that without consideration of what may result from such a reunion. Tamar was indeed beautiful but the last time he checked she was planning to find another home so she could be with her family. Ashitaka could understand and admire her devotion. He too had a strong desire to stay close with those that shared his blood.
So you can imagine his surprise when she asks if she can stay here. A wide smile spreads across his lips and he nods enthusiastically.
“Of course, you would be more than welcome,” he lowers his head towards her in a respectful bow,
“It would be an honor to have you as a member of my herd. I will do my best to protect you.” There’s a giddyness to him which was escaping as a glimmer in his brown eyes. For a moment he looked over his shoulder to see if his sister was nearby so he could introduce them and tell her the good news. Then he remembered the time, it was late and Mizuki was probably putting Ameyuki down for the night.
Instead Ashitaka thinks back on what Tamar had just been talking about,
“Is there-” he hesitates for a moment as though uncertain if he was about to say the right thing,
“is there anyone you would like me to invite here? Someone that could keep you company and make you feel more at home?”
