Ameyuki opened her eyes and the first thing she noticed was how her breath turned into white mist in the air. Winter had arrived and each day was getting steadily colder. The little filly turned her attention to the sky and was saddened to see grey clouds. Not even a slither of sunlight to warm her. “Oka-san,” she quietly calls to her mother with one last snuggle into her dense grey coat, “Can I go play?” Mizuki, still half asleep, gently nodded in response before adding, “Just don’t go too far.”
”I won’t,” Ameyuki promised before walking away. She wasn't entirely sure why her protective mother felt the need to remind her to stay close. The little filly barely left her mother's sight. Looking around she could see that all the grass and plants were covered in frost and her hooves made quiet crunching noises. Suddenly she spooked and came to a full stop. There was something small and white falling from the sky. “Yuki?” The little filly pondered and watched as more white flakes came tumbling from the sky. A bright smile spread across her lips. Her mother had told her about snow before but this was her first time seeing it. It really was beautiful and magical. Rearing onto her hind legs she broke into a run and started frolicking across the clearing. She leaped and she danced. Oh it was so much fun, but it would be more fun to share the experience. “Talei,” she called for her half sister in excitement, completely fogetting that other members of the herd might still be sleeping, “look, look, it’s snowing!”
