Freeze in the snow storm

Blizzard had decided they would spend the night here before heading home, it had gotten dark earlier than expected and he hadn’t wanted to risk the yearling getting into trouble. So he’d settled him nearby and stay quiet while the colt fell asleep. To Rebel staying here overnight was all just one big adventure, but Blizzard knew the dangers and so kept close, dozing when he could whilst still remaining alert.

It was this alertness that caused his eyes to suddenly fly open, glancing to the still sleeping colt on the floor before scanning the area. He could hear the sounds of the meadow, small critter running through the grass looking for food, those didn’t bother him. It was the sound of something bigger than had his muscles tensing and senses on alert. With one last glance to the sleeping colt beside him he stalked forward on silent hooves.

He was ready to throw down and fight anyone who would be a threat to his sister’s son, just as he had promised her, but he came up short at what he did see. She was pretty, with the white legs similar to his own and a red pelt that was dusted with white, roan in colour he thought. She definitely didn’t fit the profile he’d had in his head, he wasn’t sure why he’d thought the worst, habit perhaps but he was pretty sure she didn’t look like a threat.

Realising his brain hadn’t caught up to the situation and that he was just stood their, staring because that wasn’t creepy in the middle of the night was in! his sarcastic mind helpfully added, he shook his head and snorted, hoping to get her attention if he hadn’t already, not wanting to scare her before he spoke urmm hi he winced at his self, that was lame! He swore his young nephew was better with words than him, especially when it came to a pretty mare.

Trying again he added could you not sleep either? once more it felt like the worse thing to say right now but it was the best he could manage. Turning his attention back to his charge he arched his neck to the side to look round a particular hedge, checking on him as he waited for the mares reply.
