You're making the assumption that Rattner's indesputable truth and that everyone that appears on the internet requires a reading before commenting.
I was less interested in Rattner's comments than the title which at the outset is weak. China is dangerous BECAUSE they have awakened.
This is a country with plans to build 15 aircraft carriers by 2033. Rattner's just a writer/host, as many of us are.
Read the comments on his page, he has his critics and paints with a broad brush everyone doesn't agree with.
Instead of insisting I subscribe to Rattner's views, learn from mine. I know the Chinese moderately well, having worked in a fairly high position (IT) for one of kazillions of Taiwanese to Mainland importing firms with key people being Chinese. They send their people to Walmart to pick up products, take him home to reverse engineeer them, paint their products a different color and then sell em to Walmart and charge whatever Walmart's willing to pay..for one reason. TO KEEP THEIR FACTORIES OPEN and BUSY.
This is a portrait of China coming out. When you work in IT for an importer, you learn a great deal about international trade and what's behind it.
The takeaway I'd give you today, is that Chinese are untrustworthy by AMerican standards..they have no respect for intellectual property, fair trade, honest financial reporting or advancement of anybody's culture except their own.
Little Russia's been left in the dust by China because while similar, they're not clever like the Chinese are. Watch what's going on in the space and energy races and who are the leaders.
They come over hear to learn our ways but we're too parochial to do the same to other nations...because we keep telling ourselves that WE are the cat's meow and nobody else knows anything to teach us.
Maybe I should post this in Rattner's website, do ya think? Or you can. Replies:
