Alcoholism (now medically termed Alcohol Use Disorder or AUD) is widely recognized by major health organizations like the AMA, NIDA, and WHO as a CHRONIC BRAIN DISEASE, characterized by compulsive alcohol use despite harmful consequences, involving changes in brain structure and function similar to diabetes or heart disease, requiring ongoing management. While the initial choice to drink might be voluntary, the addiction itself involves brain changes that create a compulsive need, making it an illness, not just a moral failing or weakness.
Just like you have most of your pathetic life you have run away from he hard part of curing your disease. The actual look at the damage your disease has done to those around you, just taking a pill does not change the damage done to your brain that alcohol has done.
