The righteous shall flourish like the palm tree - Ashitaka/birth

After living in the Inlet for a little while now the winter didn't bother her as much. Or course this past winter had been particularly bitter. It was way worse than the last winter had been and thankfully she had some extra fat on her body to keep herself warm. Ashitaka helped a lot of course and he had even added a mare to their small band. No longer just the two of them (his sister and her daughter sometimes too). It was a weird notion belonging to a herd.

And their herd was about to grow again.

It was now mid spring and all the snow had melted away, leaving the ground mushy and soft. Though it was supposed to be another beautiful morning like yesterday, Tamar was met with cloudy skies. The sky was grey with large clouds looming with danger of an upcoming storm. She could smell the air heavy with rain. Ashitaka would want to check on her before the storm so she decides to get out in the open.

The shaggy pony mare was moving towards the herd when the contractions started. If it was one thing she has learned these past few months it was how to hide. Not that she felt threatened by anyone in the Inlet, but she was always worried her mother's killer would find her. That, and maybe her own mysterious father she has never met. So having her foal in solitude was something she found important.

As she turns to now head towards the trees, the rain begins. At first it was just a few sprinkles, but soon it was a full on down pour. Strong winds soon follow as she races under the wooded area. Light flashes in the now darkness as she navigates to the birthing spot she had picked out weeks before. Thunder roars overhead, masking her own screams as she gives birth.

For being her first child he seems to come easily enough. The new mother cleans off her newborn foal as bits of rain fall from the trees overhead. The trees could only sheild them so much with the heavy winds so she stands to use her body to help sheild her son further. The two of them stay in their hiding spot until the colt was ready to move on his own.

His silvery hair reminds her of her own as she nudges him along the path ahead. She calls for Ashitaka hoping he could hear here above the storm. Maybe he had sought shelter in the trees himself.
