drove it like i stole it open

half agony, half hope

It does not take long for the sand to become embedded against her skin, for it to dye the tips of limbs, mane and tail the same golden-red as the sand upon which she walked. Were Corvette currently attempting to impress, befriend or seduce anyone, she might have taken offense but as it were, she barely noticed.

The Dunes were nothing like the Inlet (or the Bay, for that matter), and she had not yet decided if this was a mark for or against the territory. There was nowhere to hide here, nowhere to relax, nowhere to belong. Where she had attempted, at least, to meet her companions during her time in the Bay, she made no such effort now. Not while she was still so unsettled and unfamiliar with the terrain.

The slender mare walked along the crest of a dune with her gaze focused somewhere on the horizon as she contemplated her life. She had hoped that in going to the Commons she would find someone that excited her as Fell had, someone who spoke to the wilder, fiercer part of her nature. Or, failing that, at least someone that wanted her, now that she was finally ready to be wanted again. Instead, she had found Lucifer. And while she didn't dislike the gigantic black stallion, she also had no reason to regard him fondly, either. He asked nothing of her deeper than her name and professed no admiration of her, even when offering his home to her.

So far as she understood it, she was a number. And while this did sting her pride more than a little, Corvette had accepted such a risk when she entered the Commons. At least he was not hostile, although even that might have been more exciting. As it was, Vette had largely kept to herself since her arrival, familiarizing herself with this alien landscape and its many, many dangers.

Afternoon faded to twilight, and she found herself hesitating at the rim of a large, circular depression. She had intended to meander down it to drink from the meagre pool of water therein, but there was a form she could not make out in the gloom. Rather than interrupting them, she paused at the top, at a safe distance away, and waited to see if the creature was friend or foe or predator.
