sweeter than my solitude

young mare . mutt . black. 16.1h . fell x kohelet . love

Rethe has no idea what to do with the emotions swirling inside of her chest. They make her feel on edge and panicky, as though the only way to save herself is to push away from these moments of vulnerability and run for the hills. And though she would like to claim some greater purpose or desire to explain why it is that she does not; why it is that she would rather sit here and tremble violently inside, as uncomfortable as she has ever felt. In reality, it is simply stubbornness.

Rethe won't let anyone push her around, even herself.

Tefnut's question earns a long, confused look but Rethe eventually nods. Without the snow as described, the view was still pretty but not the prettiest. The snow is what made it special, and there was no fresh snow now. After a moment, Rethe shakes her head instead. "I was going to, but actually no. It doesn't really have the same majesty without the snow." She shifted her weight and snuck a glance at Tefnut before pirouetting to face the way Tefnut had come from.

"I will show you something else instead... it's not far from here." And she turned, assuming that the red mare would follow as she trekked along, taking them up a gradual, rocky slope toward the mountain. For a while, she walked in silence before she seemed to gather herself.

"When I was a little girl my mother brought me up here. It was... one of the last things she showed me before she left to Salem. Of course, it's better in the daylight when you can actually see, but it's... something at least." She wasn't sure why showing Tefnut this made her feel small and shy inside, but she imagined it had something to do with the fact that she hadn't been back to this spot since she was a little girl.

Eventually, they would crest a lower cliff on the mountain and would be greeted with a wide view of the surrounding three territories: the Bay, Cove, and Arch. Rethe would be silent for a long moment, her brow furrowed in thought before she eventually sighed and looked to Tefnut again, forcing a smile to her lips. "She brought me here because at the time, every place I could look at from here was owned by my family. I could go anywhere the light touched here, as the saying goes, and still be safe." Her smile was sadder as she continued. "My grandfather - Solomon - held the Cove, my uncle Suleiman the Arch, and my own father - Fell - this Bay. Even the Inlet - which you can only see from here on the clearest of days - was held by my aunt Parvati." She breathed out a slow breath and then let her gaze fixate on Tefnut again.

"My family's blood is in this soil. My father never lost command until he disappeared, and I was... shocked and hurt when my brother left it behind. Even more so when you claimed it and immediately started bringing in strangers to rule it as if it was a just another land and not someone's home." She snorts softly, shaking her head. "Hell, my baby teeth are likely somewhere on the beach still from when I would spar with my big brother Kho."

There is a long moment of silence and her gaze flits away from the mare again. "But you are not me. And this land isn't a home to you, yet."
