It used to be for oral exams during a promotional exam, if you were at a slow company, and weren’t connected, there was ZERO chance of promotion. The guy at E12 for 10 years wouldn’t even waste time going.
Ever since it was removed, (for completely legitimate reasons), the unattended side effect was there was no longer any reason to go to a busy house. Everyone was on an even field. It made no difference if you knew the job, cared for the job, or even have done it at any point. There have been a frightening amount of Lt’s made in the last 10 years with slow company experience.
