Ah-ha, Daniel I, you may well have successfully identified the skunk in the room.

As an American outsider continuing to learn more about cesta punta politics in the Basque, I now see that player selections for the "Summer League" participants and qualifiers appear to have principally been made by a Frenchman promoter (Frederic Cadet)? That may explain a lot.

Simply put, no objective observer who understands jai alai would think that on the merits players like Caparrus/Delpuech/Laborde should be invited to try to qualify for the "Summer League" tournaments over Argoitia. Nor is there any world in which a player like Libois should be chosen as an automatic tournament participant while the superior Txanika isn't even given an opportunity to qualify.

Jai Alive to the rescue.
