meet me where the wild things grow Frost <3 Posted on June 15, 2026 at 02:43:36 AM by Thisbee
Wow, there sure was a lot of sky here.
Thisbee tilted her head back as far as it would go, trying to see just how much of it there really was. From here, it looked like it might go on and on forever. But only yesterday, it’d been so small that she could barely see it between the mountains and trees. Maybe it had just grown really fast? The red dun knew that she had grown over the seasons, even if it wasn’t something she’d witnessed with her own eyes. Instead, it had come more as a realization that the most tender leaves along the bottom of the trees were easier to reach. Or that she couldn’t wedge herself into some of the small caves that pockmarked the mountainside anymore.
Yeah, it hadn’t been very much fun getting herself out last time. Note to self, only explore the bigger caves from now on. Leave the itty bitty ones to the squirrels and spiders.
This place, on the other hand…
Still gazing up, the red dun began to rotate in a circle. The clouds swirled above her now, and the wind lifted her mane. It encouraged Thisbee to go faster, faster - spinning until the sky blurred together and the air rushed in her ears. Then, with a grunted oof, her legs got all tangled up and Thisbee was sprawled out on the ground.
It was a much longer moment before the sky stopped spinning too. Okay sky, you win this time. Showoff.
Well, since she was already down here -
Rolling onto her back, Thisbee wriggled on the ground, her white-stockinged legs kicking up into the sky. The earth always felt good against her back, but it was even better with grass to itch all the prickly places her teeth couldn’t reach. Giving a contented little sigh, the young mare stopped moving and just lay there. Watching the clouds drift overhead in her flattened little nest, front legs curled close to her body.
It was nice here. Probably the nicest place she’d ever seen. She couldn’t wait to tell Maple and her parents about it when they came back.
