He had been so cute with all his shyness. How he’d stuttered when trying to talk to her as if she were pretty. Sathona had enjoyed his company; found herself smiling constantly whenever she spent time with him. As she looked out from her hiding place among the trees where she’d been when she first met Ceyx, she found herself irresistibly smiling. But then it slowly faded, because he wasn’t there and neither was she.
When the black beast had revoked his claim of the Dunes, Sathona didn’t think that Ceyx would claim it. He wasn’t confident enough to lead. Maybe one day, but not yet. When he’d meant to leave with Lucifer, Sathona had balked at the idea. Where could they possibly go and still have a home? So the blanket mare stayed in the Dunes stubbornly, waiting for the stallion to return for her. To return home, but he never did.
Smile completely gone now, Sathona’s short bushy tail snapped from one hip to the other, before she strode out into the commons. Surely the third times a charm, right? Still, as she reached the spot she’d met Ceyx, she couldn’t help but look around as if she expected him to materialize before her like he’d done the last time.
