"You take the Breath right out of me
And left a hole where my heart should be..."

The ash cloud might have gone but there was no doubt in anyone's mind that the darkness it had created had also disapated. The curses were beginning to show people's true colours, including my own and it was not looking good for the people of Shaman. The flood had wiped the slate clean for everyone, but there was no doubt that that slate had now been tainted with the fourth curse, everyones inibitions lost in sex, violence and downright wrongness. Yes, I think that's a word, but its the best one I have to describe it. The walls of the castle were closing in, day by day the situation getting worse. Lands were beginning to reappear, but the destruction would take years to fix. My own home in Shady Labyrinth was back, but not to how it had once shined.

I was on patrol of the walls the day when the ash cloud drifted off to some other part of the world. The sun was bright and high in the sky, a trophy of firey reds and soft yellows. It meant more to me now than ever. The curse of the fourth that had passed over everyone only affected me at night I had come to learn so for now, I was safe. Safe in the light. My skin, pale and interesting, was enveloped in a soft orange glow and it relaxed me slightly. However, the ground was still wet beneath my feet and I had to pull myself out of many a mud pit before I actually came to find a dry part near the wall to look out from.

It was then, as I leaned against the wall and lit a cigarette, that I saw a figure coming towards the castle. I could feel my hackles raise beneath my skin, wondering who she was. I inhaled, seeing if I recognised the scent, but there was nothing and so I shrugged and inhaled on my well earned nicotine stick. It was nice to see the waves moving away from the castle, but the water was still deep enough to drown in that was for sure. Inside, it smelt of death and decay, hence my love of the outside whether it be raining or not. I watch as the girl moves to the wall and then goes to sit by on a rock. I hear her humming and smile. She seemed nice enough.

I walk over to her, but keep my distance slightly should she want to be alone. I look at her, cool green eyes similar to her own. She appeared sweet and nice, but I knew looks could be decieving, not suggesting that Amelie is a bitch or something, but who knows with these curses, they were affecting everyone. I stand and give her a wave with my spare hand, the other holding the cigarette. Some of my dark hair blows into my face and I growl in annoyance. Great. I could do with a haircut so much right now. My lips curve into a smile and I speak, voice casual and friendly.

"Hey how's it going?

Lets not ask names yet, that's too personal. I'd wait to see if she wanted company first. Politeness always got me by so far. I think...

"You've got to fight just to make it through
Cause I will be the death of You."
