During the day, sentries guard the sleeping. When the sky is dark and the moon dances with the stars, this is when the real fun begins. Munashii Gekko's forest is the only haunt where you can find your local misfits all in one place. A land of the forbidden and forgotten, a place that is riddled with dangers of a whole different kind. The wolves here have long misplaced their rightful minds, and now live like creatures damned to prowl and lurk through the night. It's easy to lose yourself here, sanity was sure to fade away and wither; there was never anything normal about this nefarious nest. The silent threats that whispered in the breeze were enough to deter even the largest of demons around. It was not strength nor wit that ensured your survival here with Eric, and challengers would be torn down with a morose lethality - there was nothing left in his cold blue eyes that promised mercy to anyone who dared to overstep their worth. So, would you give up the sun for the moon and stars? Do you have enough vigor to become a well regarded sentry? - Put on a game face to step up and pass the sepia king's test or turn and leave before he catches your scent. You never know who wants to snack on your delicious blood in this forest.

Red Star had gone away for some time - being the mysterious, grizzled old alpha she was she hadn't really specified as to what she was off doing, but Kestrel could guess quite easily that it wasn't exactly considered normal by the standards of others. She'd caught him earlier that day as he had been finishing off the entrails of a stray hare who'd been unlucky enough to fall into the trap of Kes' iron jaws with not too much difficulty on the wolf's part - and told him to step into her position for the time being. Like the good little pet he was, Kes obliged with little hesitation. In general, Kestrel was a smarter wolf when it came to the metaphorical 'streets' of the wolf world. He was a more dominant creature, but when he found a ruthless lupine who wasn't afraid to assert themselves over others, then he would back down and submit. Because life worked like that, as he had learned over the past four or five years that he had been alive - there would always be someone there, waiting in the shadows to better you. It just so happened that Kes managed to be one of those wolves, just not in a quite so obvious way. The polar wolf had looked at the black and red female and simply nodded, his auburn eyes unwavering, before dipping his head and walking away, his tail held perhaps a bit higher than its usual limp position against his back leg.

He must admit, it surprised him a bit that he would be chosen and not some other member. Kestrel hadn't had a huge part in the acceptance and denial of possible recruits at the borders since had been accepted, and took to lurking on the outer edges of the packlands. Most of this lack of participation stemmed from the fact that Kestrel had no use sticking his nose into something he would get nothing out of; most of the lupines coming by these days were worth absolutely nothing in his eyes - and apparently, in Red Star's eyes as well. The one who he would have expected to take on Red Star's role by the alpha female's request was Devil's Angel, the deadly ebony and ivory shaded she-wolf who had been doing the majority of the greeting. It seemed she became a favorite of Red Star's and she smelled completely of Munashii and its older alphas, a sign perhaps that she was a member who had stuck around through the fairly inactive pack's rough times. Now that was a bitch who was leader material, not that Kestrel would ever say anything. But whatever, it had been him who had gotten the position and now he intended to clean up the messes the shitbags around here had made once and for all and present Red Star with the clean, neat pack of obedient mutts that Red Star strove for.

Kestrel trotted with languid grace through the twisting, melancholy lands, his elegant frame rippling with sinuous muscle as he moved. Kes was the pretty boy of the pack - that much was obvious from the handsome, neat face and the lithe body - but the look on his features was one that suggested that he wasn't the angel to be trifled with. Currently, his auburn eyes seemed more yellow, hard topaz chips in his pristine ivory face. His slim muzzle was lifted in a way that it hadn't been since he had joined this pack, and his shadowed lips were pulled away from his glinting teeth slightly. With each step, Kes' tail swung behind him, arched over his back. Yes, it was clear who was the boss here now. He neared a slight clearing in the condensed forest, large enough to fit several wolves but not too large. Dew shivered on the tips of the blades of grass as a soft summer breeze swept around them. In all honesty, it might've been beautiful, but Kes did not see its beauty. He only saw how it could be used for his purposes. There was no pile of rocks that he would climb up on, and in all honesty even if there was, he probably wouldn't climb up on it.

The air trembled in his lungs for a moment as the Arctic wolf inhaled it, and then tossed his head back to release a bone-chilling, husky howl which shattered the air and was carried over for miles, a call for anyone who was daring enough to try their paw in joining Munashii Gekko. He called newcomers and existing members alike, and his loud call tapered off into a thin growl in his chest, one which stilled easily. The male stepped off into a place that was open, his body language changing immediately - tail lifting higher and swinging over his back, eyes glinting, ears held alert and forward, and lip lifted slightly, his gaze tracing over the distance, seeking the forms of those who would answer.
