At the densest section of the forest, there is a brief clearing where a steady flow of water streams down the slippery stone staircase. The water here is cool and refreshing. Staircase Falls has been rumoured to be the place where reality is met by magic; where peaceful spirits dwell. They are rumoured to have healing powers that are used to help the desperately hurt, though no one has experienced this, except for, perhaps, Kaive.

Horror, shock and embarrassment pulsed through the lass in powerful waves that knocked her stomach and made her feel sick. She was just confused... She hadn’t meant to do that. She was just socially awkward and didn’t really know what she was doing. Oh god! How was she going to make it right with him? She had gone and messed it all up again, as usual. The cave walls seemed to close in around her, the darkness gripping her throat and choking her. “I....I...” The lass tried to speak but she couldn’t explain her embarrassing actions to him so she simply shuffled backwards. The male made his way outside and told Yoki to sleep before sprinting off and becoming part of the night.

Sleep? How could she sleep after all this? She had finally found happiness and safety in the form of Amatus and now she had, for what she could tell, gone and ruined her chance of a good relationship with a friend. The femme could have kicked herself but the monster deep in her soul was already doing a great job of making her feel like crap. It wasn’t long before the lass’ eyes started to cloud with hot, salty tears that rolled down her cheeks and plopped onto the cold ground below. After no time at all the female was as depressed and angry as she was when she had first met Amatus and the make-shift den was doing nothing to help. Yoki rose to her paws and padded out of the den, lifting her paw to wipe away the tears and with that she sprang to life running full pelt into the forest.

Morning.

A warm breeze ruffled through the lass’ fur and her orbs opened slowly. She was dazed and confused and boy did she feel rubbish. As she looked around her surroundings she found herself squashed between the roots of a fallen tree, barely any shelter, and she wasn’t very comfortable. It had been weeks since the incident and since then Yoki had fallen into a spiral of despair and depression. The female hadn’t eaten since that night and was becoming dangerously thin. Her fur was matted, tangled and dull. Her eyes, though dim before, had become even more lifeless; just like her limp body. Energy drained from the lass with every movement of her limbs and muscles and even opening her eyes was a task. The femme had become a more vulnerable target than she had ever been before; all she needed right now was a hero... A friend.

With a sudden start her eyes flickered open. She had fallen asleep again in order to conserve what little energy she had left. Power was dwindling fast, there was no way she would be able to hunt and death seemed certain; her body ached and whimpered with every breath. The day seemed to drag and the once comforting sun now burned the femme’s skin. It was sharp and harsh on her delicate casing and the pain was just about unbearable if it hadn’t have been for the memories.

Even though it was him who had put her in this situation, he was the very thing that was keeping her alive. She had been stupid and scared him away but the kindness that Amatus had once shown the lass gave her enough fight to keep breathing and not give up on life. Yoki was sure that she would never see him again and even if she did he probably wouldn’t want anything to do with her but his face and eyes and pelt and knight like form would at least give her peace as she passed into the kingdom of Tor and Fenris. Her only hope was that they would take pity on the form she had become and care for her throughout her afterlife.
