Ithilwen rolled her eyes at the pup. There was no getting through to her. She sat back and listened silently as Kershov doled out positions in the pack to individuals. She payed little attention to the other wolves and simply sat back and blended into the background. So she was to be a spy? Excellent, though she wasn’t too pleased to share a position with Loki, the nursing mother MAE, the weakling Molly, and especially the fact that Arsione was the master spy. Could Arsione climb a tree? Ivy was pretty sure she couldn’t. When Kershov dismissed the wolves she decided she would take a walk on her own. She needed time to get used to the solitude that came with the promise of the life of a spy. When she was fully out of sight of the others she coiled her muscles and leapt to a lower branch of a tree. From there she climbed up to the smaller, more supple branches and practically glided from tree to tree. After an hour or so the trees grew more far between. After half an hour more she jumped off a branch and fell to the ground, breaking sticks and making a general ruckus on her way down. Her head struck a stone and an inky darkness enveloped her, allowing her subconscious thoughts to vocalize. Why did she leave me? The thought started out as an idle question, then grew to consume her entire being. She twitched in her forced sleep, and was jerked to consciousness to find her heart pounding and her body covered in a light coat of cold sweat. This isn’t right, She thought. I’m stronger than this. I can get by. Ithilwen looked up to get a bearing on her surroundings. To be honest her training had kept her so busy that she had never wandered outside of the packlands. In front of her laid a cavern promising shelter from the unfriendly night. Well, she had nothing to lose. Ivy slowly rose to her feet and walked inside the cave. |
