At the densest section of the forest, there is a brief clearing where a steady flow of water streams down the slippery stone staircase. The water here is cool and refreshing. Staircase Falls has been rumoured to be the place where reality is met by magic; where peaceful spirits dwell. They are rumoured to have healing powers that are used to help the desperately hurt, though no one has experienced this, except for, perhaps, Kaive.

Kenina

KENINA was mad. she was fuming. she wanted nothing more than to hurt something or hurt someone and honestly, that scared her. she had always been on the brassy side, but god, she had never wanted to hurt anyone. as she stalked from the lands of spring grounds, she tried to calm herself, though with her mother-no, lanaya- and her father ringing through her head. why did she have to come?! they were doing perfectly fine without her! she snarled to herself, teeth flashing and ears flattening to her skull. the lean and long lass with her coat bristling was frightening idea. she shook out her thick coat and took a deep breath. she should run. she should get a pup, take it away from spring grounds, maybe bright moon, and live with it. she wouldn’t need rayne or their brother. they didn’t care about her anyways, did they?

KENINA had it all once upon a time. she was the princess of spring grounds, her father loved her, her siblings played with her, her mother was there to keep an eye on the lands and them. but then, she left. her father handed over the pack. shanti took over. and then things settled back into the way they used to be. shanti wasn’t exactly everywhere, but kenina knew that she would be a solid in the pack life. she would make sure the borders were marked and that everyone was, semi, accounted for. but there was still an emptiness. when her mother left, her siblings had vanished. she guessed they had jumped ship. well that was fine. if they weren’t brave enough to stay with their father, then they certainly weren’t wolf enough to be in spring grounds.

AND she had escaped. she had ran from lanaya and her father in a sprint. she didn’t want to see her father cry over that witch. she didn’t deserve it anyways. lanaya didn’t deserve to see any of them cry. she was worthless, a betrayer. long legs slowed as she neared the slick edges of staircase falls. she paused, smiling slightly at a butterfly that flitted past her. she almost thought about going home until she heard the desperate plead, the voice so youthful that she almost cried. it was a pup! she shivered and darted forward, spotting the grey and white head poke out of the river. she didn’t hesitate as she leapt into the river, her long legs shoving her with graceful ease through the water. her head stretched out, her teeth snagging the pup’s scruff and she hauled him upwards, keeping his dripping body out of the water. she forced her way onto the shore were she dropped the pup and hurriedly began to rasp her tongue across his skin, forcing the fur against the grain, hoping to warm him up. ”are you alright, little one?” she asked softly.
