A good-sized black wolf trotted through the wooded section of these lands, glad for the coolness of the shade in this summer heat. His black coat, while causing his green eyes to stand out in a striking way, was hell in the summer, absorbing heat from the sun to the point where his coat would almost be too hot to touch. The shade that the trees provided helped some, but there was only so much that could be done when the temperature rose in this season.


He had been wandering these lands for some time now, drawn to the smell of other wolves that permeated the area. He’d yet to see any, but his nose told him that they were around, just that they had passed through at other times. Shame that, really. He would have loved to have stumbled on someone, sneak up on them, mess with them. The usual. Nothing horrendous, of course, he just liked giving people a good scare.


He stopped moving underneath a tree, the leaves blocking out the worst of the sun’s rays. He sniffed the ground before him – still no one had been here recently. Wasn’t this supposed to be a populated area? And yet here he was. Alone.


Sighing, he plopped down underneath the tree, lying on his side with his stomach exposed, trying to cool off. His head up, not completely relaxed after all, he surveyed the lands before him, the tree behind him, bark rough on his back. Still, there was no sign of any others. How dull.
