Morena is certainly not a stallion-hating, wild woman either. She loved her father and still does, even though it was his actions that tore their family apart. And she loves her brother, despite his flaws. She always thought that someday she would follow the same path as her mother, and find a stallion, and would work to find a place amongst the ranks of a traditional herd. It is only by chance that she is here, and it is only because of fresh wounds that she is reluctant to leave this safe haven.
It takes all the strength in her for Morena not to sob into the grass. Big girls don't cry. She is strong, like her parents, and she will not fail them by crying now. Someday, she will find them and make things right with her broken family, and someday, she will make new friends and new sisters. This is only a phase and her heart will be whole again. She keeps telling herself these things. It is these hopeful thoughts, and the distraction of her own grinding jaw that keep her from outright crying, but nothing can raise the downward curve to her lips or ease the sadness from her eyes.
Morena is so engrossed in her own thoughts that she is startled by the sound of another voice. She flinches and looks up at the strange mare with a wide-eyed expression and short blades of grass poking out the corners of her mouth. "Yes, I live here." she admits after swallowing her food. "I'll be okay." This is not entirely a lie. Morena will be okay, though she feels so painfully alone right now.
With a sigh, the mixed-breed's expression fades from surprised back to morose, but she makes an effort to mask this by pushing her ears forward and offering a friendly introduction. "I'm Morena."
Well hey, my story sounds the same but I’ll find some way to show you what life’s all about. Oh we could take a walk downtown. No, lets search for higher ground. We’ll count the stars, and clouds and howl at the moon. I hear the rich folks come here too, cause’ it’s such a lovely view and when the sun decides to rise it’ll be too soon. ------------------
