At the densest section of the forest, there is a brief clearing where a steady flow of water streams down the slippery stone staircase. The water here is cool and refreshing. Staircase Falls has been rumoured to be the place where reality is met by magic; where peaceful spirits dwell. They are rumoured to have healing powers that are used to help the desperately hurt, though no one has experienced this, except for, perhaps, Kaive.

Find Me in the Darkness

I do not mind at all to sit next to you in the sun; we need to rest. By the way, those seeds are doing the trick making my foot numb. As Athene raised herself slightly off the ground and away, she turned back slightly to glance at him, smiling. Her honey gaze then shifted to watch the fish that swam by and that was when her sister had come into her mind. The fae had uttered her name, and apparently Zev had heard her. What? Athene shook her head, shock suddenly entering her. Where was Hellene now? Athene had had only good intentions when she had brought Hellene to Spring Grounds – force her into a pack. Hellene was a survivor, she would adapt and change. She would accept pack life, make friends, maybe find a mate and form a family. But what if she hadn’t. What if she had not adapted and accepted her surroundings. In Athene’s absence, had she left the pack? It was possible that her actions had done more harm than good.

The fae remembered that the brute had inquired as to who Hellene was. She raised her bodice and shook out her pelt before remembering about her wounds. Her leg felt a sharp pain as it shook, but her ribs were but a dull ache. “I have to go, it’s my sister. I fear she’s left and I’ve missed her.” Athene stepped away gingerly before gazing backward at the brute, a crooked smile laying upon her kissers. “Wait for me? I’ll return… you’ll see.” And with that, she took off at a three legged gait, her injured leg held protectively to her abdomen. Her goal? Spring Grounds.

As she returned back from her packlands, she traveled slowly with her head hung low, no pep in her step. The awkward gait she traveled at was due to her injury rather than excitement. She was actually using her injured leg, but severely limped upon it. Athene passed by a poppy plant and let loose her tongue, scooping up a few of the opiates, swallowing them immediately to ignore their taste. The small dose that she had ingested before had worn off. Immediately she started traveling, her nares following her own scent path that she had made, for her goal was Staircase once more. She didn’t know whether Zev would have waited for her, but the hope that he was there drove her forward. Athene needed comfort for when she had made her way to Spring Grounds, her fears had been verified. She shook her head to get the thoughts out of her head, and instead thought of the dark brute who she hoped was awaiting her. And then she remembered the wound on his leg and grabbed some moss off a tree, her ivories already breaking up the bitter plant a poultice. Should he actually be waiting for her, she wanted to be able to treat his leg right away to reduce the risk of infection.

When her form broke through the trees that surrounded the cascades and her honey eyes finally laid upon the brute, she felt like crying – he had waited for her, and it meant so much to her. She quietly approached the brute and started dressing his wound, using her tongue to softly spread the moss onto his leg. Afterward, she laid down next to him and rested her head upon his front paws. “She’s gone…
