Aplos Riverside

Moladion’s powerful, winding river...
Aplos River is a broad, slow-moving river originating from somewhere beneath the mountains of Spirane and feeding Iromar’s moors in the south. The northern parts of the river are known for their strong currents, with the water becoming slow moving in the south. The riverbanks vary along its course, ranging from soft hummock grasses to small groups of pine, and sometimes nothing but pebbles and sand. Crossing can be difficult at times, but it can be swam or bridged by fallen trees or boulders alike.

The pain filled cry grates at my ears, my teeth gritting together in abhorrance as I stalk closer to the smell of decay and death. Unlike the others, this is not one I have been tracking. I was actually trailing another creature, a large male wolf who seemed savage and merciless if one can go by the scars rippling across his matted pelt. A challenge, everything I need right now and more, much more. The life that flows through his veins has got to be better than anything this pup can give me and yet I find myself stalking the weak beast's every move.

I find him first cuddled against a cold corpse, the smell of rot so fierce that even I wrinkle up my nose, one so used to death and deestruction. I can hear the maggots wriggling in her flesh even from my perch inside the bushes, my skin shuddering at the prospect of one being alive with those things inside. the boy peaks my curiosity, his ferocity as he curses her dead body, taunting her with hate filled eyes. Ah, the irony. Perhaps those are the same eyes my darling Rose would have looked on me with if she could see me now. She would not like what I have become in her absence, a wandering reaper, a savage hunter, only wanting one thing and one thing alone.

She was my redemption and the moment she was taken from me, my last shred of hope was gone as well. I am now what Godric made me to be, full of thirst and wanting as I go from prey to prey, taking my taste before melting back into the shadows from whence I came. But this creature, he draws something from me, some sense of relativity as if I can understand some of the things he is feeling. Betrayal, a large feeling of helplessness over-ridden by anguish and new outlook on the world. He cannot control the death of his mother just as I could no control the death of my dear mate and savior. And now he is utterly alone in the world. But not quite.

I put myself in his path, ready to face his savage side, his beastly side. I meet his curled lips with raised hackles and a devilish grin of my own, icy blue glare bearing down on him, demanding submission. I don't expect him to just roll over and give it, that would be too disappointing. My voice rumbles through gnashing jaws.

"You must be hungry. Want to see how the real wolves get their meat?"

My eyes show a dare, a challenge. Will he be accepting of my lifestyle? Only time will tell.
