Aplos Riverside

Moladion’s powerful, winding river...
Aplos River is a broad, slow-moving river originating from somewhere beneath the mountains of Spirane and feeding Iromar’s moors in the south. The northern parts of the river are known for their strong currents, with the water becoming slow moving in the south. The riverbanks vary along its course, ranging from soft hummock grasses to small groups of pine, and sometimes nothing but pebbles and sand. Crossing can be difficult at times, but it can be swam or bridged by fallen trees or boulders alike.

It is spring! It is a most marvelous time! It is a time where my chocolate and flame pelt is not scorched by the sun nor frozen by the cling of ice. I enjoy all of the different times of year that come with the cycles of the moon, the times of the year told by the changing stars in the sky. Oh, how they move so gently across the sky each and every night. But now, it is day. It is early in the morning, and clouds litter the sky. They move quickly on this day, with beams of early morning sunlight pushing through at every moment they can manage to. The clouds above are rain clouds, coming from the mountain tops of a land called Spirane. A land I one day want to visit! I am curious what it must look like, to see the world from up so high.

So thus, I wander the lands of Moladion. I stretch my cream colored legs far from the lands of my home, Diveen. A smile is on my wild face as I come closer to the riverside. I am largely unaware of what is ahead. It is an...adventure on this day! I am most interested in these fast moving clouds, how they seem heavy with rain and yet not a drop falls. My ice blue eyes remain glued above, my tongue falling out of my mouth as I trot along the moist ground. It has been raining recently, and the earth is still damp and saturated. I do not know much about what this could mean, I only know that is feels nice and cool against my paws, and leaves a bit of mud on me.

As I gaze up at the clouds and trot with glee, I hear the sound of water up ahead. I remember recently, I had the most pleasant experience with another at the waterfalls. It was much fun playing in the water, and I wonder if I could have fun with someone else today too! I grin, my tongue finding its way back in my mouth as my chocolate ears directed themselves towards the sound of the water. There is much foliage in the way, but I know I can wiggle through. My form has grown considerably, and I have become much stronger. Much better at pushing aside bushes that once before would knock me over.

With confidence, my flame-kissed frame heads towards the water. Twigs and branches crack as I make my way through the thicker parts of foliage, leaves catching my fur as I go forth. I do feel one particularly cruel, thin branch that cuts past my fur and digs into my skin a little, but it is no matter. It simply released a bit of my essence to the air, letting my perfume seep into the thick air around me.

I have gotten closer to the sound of the water, and yet it is not close enough. I pause, my head lifting as I survey a small clearing. I blink my curious ice blue eyes. Something is odd. The water is sounding louder, and yet I am standing still. I find that my chocolate-smudged forehead tilts, a small whine floating into the air as I look towards the sound.

It is then I see something strange. The forest up ahead seems to move. It twists and turns, with melodies of crashing leaves and water blend to form colors muddied and confusing to my mind. I then realize that the water is rushing towards me. That the strange noises are the noises of angry water coming at me with no hesitation. I, however, hesitate, unsure of what is going on at first, but when I do, the water is only yards away.

I find my cream colored legs suddenly springing to action. I turn my form around with haste, and my paws smack against the moist ground as I attempt to run back the way I came. I am apparently not as fast as I wish I was. As I smash through the foliage that I made a small path through, the water becomes loud like that of a screaming banshee. It nips at my heels, and I can feel its cold wet teeth suddenly making my feet fall out from under me.

I yelp as the water carries my form off, taking me to an unknown world. My head goes under water at first, and my eyes see nothing but brown until my head thrashes around, breaking free of the water and gasping for air. I take each breath of a air like I am a greedy, starving creature fighting for scraps. My paws get to working, my instincts to peddle kicking in. I manage to keep my form afloat, but I am moving quickly. Where did all this water come from? Why is it so deep? I do not realize it at the moment, but the water is not so deep only a few yards from me. As I gain my bearings, I let my form come to rest against a large tree. Water still rushes around me, but at least I am stable. I cannot see how to get out though, and worry crosses my face as I look for any way to escape the cascade of water. I am not...strong enough to swim against it. I then feel my heart beating, panic starting to set in as the water tries to drag me away. I call out, no words, just a call for help. I...I do not know if anyone will hear, nor if anyone could help. I just...I'm just scared.
