Enocra Woodland

Pine, spruce and firs alike...
Dense coniferous forests cover the woodlands, with clearings, paths and the occasional wildberry shrub throughout. Pine, spruce and fir make up much of the forest in the east, with the forest becoming swampier in the west towards Mecor Valley. In the west, cypress trees dominate, with fallen trees creating bridges across and throughout the stillwaters.

She smiled as young Roam fidgeted then danced around her once again obviously happy to be in her presence. She felt her face heat up at Roam’s praise when she told him about her being the best hunter of her age in her pack. Then he asked her in regards to what she thought could he do it. She looked the boy up and down, whether the truth of what she thought, be it harsh or kind she wouldn’t lie to him. Not that she thought the answer make a big difference, no would probably reinforce his commitment to it and his resolve to prove her wrong; yes would boast his confidence, not that he lacked any, and if she added on to it might help him focus which wouldn’t hurt.

Choosing her words with care she said, “Yes, but only with a lot of practice, training, and time; you certainly have the speed, and energy for it.” Then adding to herself,‘maybe too much, but if it’s well directed it could be his biggest advantage.’

To him following her into the woods no questions,‘looks like I might have to teach him stranger danger as well , but as long as he’s with me he’ll be safe’

“Remember: most of what I will teach you is strictly hunting, you can’t use to play with others, and I doubt you would but it’s important to know.” She warns.

She giggled at his enthusiasm about rabbits, “Well done, you just pointed out their most prominent feature and their best defense, theirs ears are large meaning they have amazing hearing, the way we counter it is by being quiet; their hind legs are strong meaning that they can run fast and jump high for their size, we counter this by getting as close as possible. Rabbits live in underground mazes called warrens, if they go into them the hunt will fail.” She said.

“There are four ways a hunt can end: one, success; two, failure; three success but injury because some prey we hunt is dangerous; and lastly four, failure and injury. Ways one can begin stalking, or tracking; next could be a chase, a fight, stalking if tracking was first, or the ending.” She explains

Then she swiftly dropping to her rabbit hunting position,“notice my rump is low, my chest fur isn’t touching the grass, and my tail is out keeping my balance so I can step softly; remember stalking should be slow.” She points out the important details of the position.

“Now this is the part I warned you about earlier in order to be a good hunter you when you catch your prey you must bite down hard, smaller prey area doesn’t matter much; bigger like moose, boars, and deer aim for the neck or stomach and keeping hold until they stop moving."

Just then she catches the scent of what they were hunting the rabbits were a couple hundred feet directly ahead, ‘Good I’ll use this as an opportunity to see how well he tracks.’

“Ok, right here is some good rabbit scent let’s see how well you can track.” She explained ears pointing to where the scent trail begins.
