The Grotto

Disaster has struck!
Years ago, an earthquake broke open several entrances into a deep, winding series of subterranean systems. It was thought that deep below, underground rivers snaked their way below Moladion. Now, flooding in the Northern reaches of Moladion has proven this theory to be true.

The Grotto is almost entirely submerged. Many of the entrances are completely inaccessible, and those that are only extend a few hundred feet before ending in water. The lower entrances, however, act almost like a giant drain for Moladion. Water pours down into the Grotto's maw as powerful rapids and waterfalls, and large amounts of debris have build up throughout the area. It can be exceptionally dangerous to travel due to the risk of flash-flooding and dams suddenly breaking, but the Grotto does offer the most consistent access across the floodwaters because of those dams.

Note:The Grotto will return to normal once 25 posts have been completed (or at Staff discretion). During this time, new threads will receive a 'Surprise','Disaster', and prizes.

My acceptance into the pack of Spirane was still pending. I had pleaded my case to Purge, the new queen of the mountains, and could only hope she would see the skills I would bring. I was of silence and death, it followed me in each step I took. I moved with the shadows, coming and going as I so pleased. If I did not wish for you to know of my presence, you wouldn't. The ways of the tundra served me well in the land of Moladion, even though my pelt held me at a slight disadvantage. Though I was a killer, I was by no means a cruel wolf; I knew the difference between right and wrong. Little did I know, i'd have to prove that today.

I moved in utter silence, following where the wind led me. I was headed to one of the few places that intrigued me the most, the grotto. It was a network of caves that seemed to be newly acquired to moladion. The farther back you got, the darker and more dangerous it became. Danger appealed to my nature and I was always drawn to anything that brought death. It reminded me of my home land, and like a moth to a flame, it was my beacon to follow.

I entered a cavern that was hidden by a waterfall. The stones were wet and slippery, so I moved slowly as I hoped down to the cavern floor. When I reached the bottom, I splashed in a big puddle of water, ice cold to the touch. It didn't affect me, for it was no where as cold as the tundra's water. I quickly trudged through, ready to explore and see how far I could go before I reached the limit's of my safety. I moved out of the water, so I didn't make a sound as I traveled. My footsteps were light, and with the help of the roar of the waterfall, I was a phantom. I stuck to the shadows along the cavern wall, if there were others in here with me, they'd never know I was coming. Luckily I had no intentions of killing, so they were safe.

The farther I walked, the less light poured through the opening. Though I was used to the endless nights of the tundra and my other sense immediately took over in place of my eyes. Suddenly my ears twitched, hearing faint voices off through a tunnel that conjoined this cave with another. I was, by instinct, a curious wolf, and I quickly slipped through the tunnel, crawling two get through the smaller parts. When I popped out the other side, I went straight into the shadows to watch what transpired. There were two female wolves, both very unaware of my presence. The white female smelled of Spirane, peaking my curiosity even further. While the black female smelled of Iromar, a demon by the ways of her markings. My icy blue eyes watched as the two had what appeared to be a friendly enough confrontation, until the Spirane wolf turned and bolted. No sooner had she ran when the Iromar wolf followed in pursuit. Not things were starting to get interesting.

I stuck to the shadows, following quickly behind at a safe enough distance that they wouldn't notice me. It grew darker and darker but I watched as the Iromar lept upon the Spirane wolf and bit into her. I stopped, feeling a protective snarl rise up in my throat (though it never made its way out). Even though I wasn't apart of Spirane yet, this I felt protective over this wolf. Then the unthinkable happened, the white wolf was thrown to an invisible chasm. I cringed when I heard her body smack against the stone below. It didn't sound to far, but it didn't sound good either. I stalked out from my hiding spot, a growl rising in my throat to the somewhat larger Iromar female. My tail arched and my hackles were raised, I did not care who this female was (I didn't know she was the queen, but I still did not care). What is it with Iromar wolves and killing wolves for no reason? Leave, she has done enough damage to sate her blood lust," I might have confused her with the way I spoke, it was not my fault I spoke in third person.

I turned my back to the black demon, unafraid that she might attack me. Let her! she would soon find out the power of the tundra and what made me a killer. I looked over the edge, seeing the body of the white female below, in a pool of her own blood. She had hit her head on a stone below, on top of the wound sustained from the demon's fangs. I looked around, luckily finding a pathway to get down to the girl. I stalked off, still uncaring of the female behind me. She could have left for all I cared. I slipped into the shadows, taking the long way around to the pathway so the demon did not follow. When I reached the bottom, the smell of her blood was overwhelming. She looked like she was upon death's door, but I did not scent death upon her yet. "She will survive," I whisper, though I knew she could not hear me. I looked around, the floor was damp so there had to be something I could use here. Luckily, I spotted a green substance upon a rock that barely received any light: moss. I trotted over and picked it carefully from the rock, as much as I could get anyway. I wandered back and pressed the substance on the wound on her head and the some on the wound inflicted by the demon.

When the bleeding had almost entirely ceased, I placed the blood soaked moss away from from her. My own white pelt was now covered in her crimson from my attempt to stop the bleeding. I had very little medical abilities, but I had enough to save this wolf for the time being. My blue eyes stared down at her worriedly, I did not know this wolf, but I worried none the less. I began to silently wonder if she'd be alright, after taking such a fall and hitting her head. At the same time I knew I had to get her out of her, I couldn't leave her with the demon stalking these shadows somewhere. So I pushed her upon my back, using the strength of the tundra to keep her there. Her front limps kept her from slipping off, though her hind quarters still dragged slightly, but it was the best I could offer her.

I moved at a very slow pace, getting her back to the top floor and slowly carrying her towards the front of the cavern. She was smaller than me, yes, but it was still a tedious task. I had to stop from time to time to regain my strength. Luckily I was a wolf of ice and snow, otherwise she would have had to stay on the ground below. When the entrance was clear and sunlight poured in, I stopped, looking around for any place to hide her. I found there to be a small, den like opening in the side of the wall. Though it was tiny and could only, barely, fit the injured wolf. I used what little strength I had left to bring her there and gently lay her inside. I panted, fatigued from the trip. I laid by the entrance of the den, keeping watch over her unconscious form. I could not leave the girl alone, not with these shadows. A demon could be lurking within them, one that was not to be trusted.

Death surrounds, my heartbeat's slowing down. I won't take this world's abuse. I won't give up, I refuse. This how it feels when you're bent and broken. This is how it feels when your dignity's stolen. When everything you love is leaving, you hold on to what you believe in....
