Ruieze Fields

Open fields and soft grass...
Ruieze stretches far in the midlands of Moladion, laced with streams that feed into Diveen and out of Asteraia at times. The fields are vast, filled with wildflowers and tall, soft grass; trees are sparse, as are rocks, but one can find small shrubs to hide amongst, and the grass itself. To the south of the fields, a Ruieze River widens, and the ground becomes sandy. There is a small, grassy island that can be reached from the banks, with water-birds often congregating on the island rather than the riverbanks.

when our soul is gone

I am not sure what intrigues me so about Moladion. I am not sure if it is the way the trees grow different from my old homeland or if it is the running water trickling almost everywhere that I step. This place is a dream for any wolf and I am lucky to have stumbled upon it. I step lightly into the sun from the darkness of the trees that I had been traveling through. The melting snow beneath me squishes through my toes and it feels almost euphoric. Spring is coming soon and I can smell the fresh game waiting to be hunted. Or maybe it isn't just a figure of my own speech. As I step forward I can smell fresh spilled blood. I am not sure if I am losing my senses or if it is a mirage from not eating in a few days. But as I jog toward Ruieze fields I can see the bloodshed and panicked elk and almost laughing wolves bursting from every corner. It is a mad house and I almost do not want any part of it until fresh meat hits my nostrils once more. There are wolves here that I had never expected to gather. I see one male, dark and mixed of black and red and white, sitting by himself and breathing heavily. He seems almost uninterested in the hunt or mad at the world. I can't seem to decide which. There are others but my eyes cannot move fast enough to bring out detail of many of them. My red eyes dart from side to side watching frightened elk and their children dance to avoid snapping jaws and leaping predators. I can't help but to feel energized by all of the commotion.

Instead of bursting in to a group of wolves I have never spoken to I decide to let out a shrill greeting bark to those around me as I slink toward the wolf that I assume is almost as confused as I am. My ears prick back and my tail goes limp before I greet him with my head low, showing I am not a threat to him. Though if he tries anything to undermine me I will not hesitate to rip flesh from bone. He seems dominant and powerful and I do not want to overstep my boundaries. Instead I sit a few feet from him and let my body language show him that I am no threat for now.

I can only hope an elk is killed soon so I can swoop in like the vulture I was told I was as a pup. I will not take no for an answer. My stomach will be filled before this day is over. So for now I wait, my sleek black body radiating red in the ending winter sun.
