if you could only see
THE BEAST YOU'VE MADE OF ME
Unexpectedly, the ivory beast continued to eat. He carried on as if he hadn't seen the girl, and it did not bother her much. Surprised her, yes, for she was not used to being left alone. There was always a wolf wanting to meddle with her affairs, while this one seemed to brush her off. Of course, there was always a chance that the brute could come back swinging, but she didn't dare trouble her mind with such thoughts.
With a sigh, Masquerade simply turned her head. Spring was coming- she could smell it in the air, and see it in the nature blossoming around her. Where there was white, there was now a flower or tree with its earthy colors surfacing. The temperature and climate was shifting to a new season as well. She was very observant when it came to such matters- the conditions of her surroundings. The environment in which she put herself in.
New prey would come out of hibernation, and for that, she was glad. Nature's clock seemed to work just to her liking at times. The hare that the wolf recently caught meant that surely, more would be around. With a newfound confidence in that, Masquerade began to pad away with a 'humph', turning her nose this way and that and scouring the melting snow for tracks freshly made. Her shimmering amethyst orbs found themselves following a pair of squirrel marks that led to a tree not too far from where she once was; it was about a few feet away in distance. The wolf cautiously took in the tree, just to make sure there was no danger. To others it may look silly, but there were a few occasions where being unobservant costed you things you couldn't afford.
Quickly though, a furry creature made itself known with a little head peering out from its home in the wood. Masquerade nearly grinned, as she could almost feel the warmth of meat in her belly. With haste, she hunted her small prey with ease, and carried the kill a few steps from the Oak. Her jaws opened to drop the dead animal on the ground, and she lifted her eyes up to meet those of the other wolf. She needed to be sure that he wouldn't try an attempt to parade on over and take a bite at her meal.
It wasn't that she couldn't defend her own food- that was, indeed, not the case at all! The woman was an Alpha's daughter, for heavens sake! She was a highly trained assassin with skills and abilities much more advanced and of higher caliber than the average trained wolf.
Abilities that I mustn't shown anyone… she suddenly thought, and shook her head. She wasn't going to go into the mechanics of the decision she made months ago, and returned herself to the outside world where there was a bloody rodent at her feet. Without a moment's hesitation, she began to feast.
