My pelt stood out like a dire thumb against the gravelly riverbed as I trotted downstream. Now, my pelt wasn't like any other- my back was pitch black, as though someone had draped the night sky itself across my back. My left flank was splattered with a russet color, as though blood had stained my thick fur. My right side, how ever, was smokey grey with specks of white, just as a fawn with its needle thin legs. Upon my face and paws, however, it was a creamy tan with offset pale tan splotches. To top it off, my waving banner was the same russet as the pelt on my left flank. My oddly colored pelt had caused many difficulties, but a little mud can help with that.
My two different colored eyes darted towards and sudden movements, my blank features hiding my sad emotion. I heaved a sigh, finally stopping at a shallow area in the smooth-running river. I paused to peer into the darkness of the night, the moon light enhancing the strange colors of my pelt. The white specks seemed to glow, and the black upon my back shimmered at the attention of the light, battling the russet on my banner and opposing flank.
The shooting rush of cold water soothed my aching paws, settling upon the fact that I had spent my day and most of the night walking from the mountains. I heaved a sigh, my long lean legs in gracefully folding underneath me as I flopped into the shallow water, mud coming off my pelt in clumped masses. The pale tan of my face and paws were revealed as I dunked my head under the surface of the water to help clean off the dried mess.
Now, I may be a brute of few words, but don't be fooled by my stone expression. I was a brute full of pain and longing- longing to find a companion who wouldn't abandon me. I just need that special someone to crack my outer shell... Replies:
