Enocra Woodland

Pine, spruce and firs alike...
Dense coniferous forests cover the woodlands, with clearings, paths and the occasional wildberry shrub throughout. Pine, spruce and fir make up much of the forest in the east, with the forest becoming swampier in the west towards Mecor Valley. In the west, cypress trees dominate, with fallen trees creating bridges across and throughout the stillwaters.

Grandpa. There is not much I can say about him beside what I heard all around from others. It is true, I do not know much about my own granddad. Said it. But not because I didn’t want to. Much like it is with my father, the legends that surround him are so great that I am afraid of insulting them by asking. If every wolf knows their story, why would I be asking them? Truth is that inside I am so curious to know more about him, about my dad’s adventures. Well, there is always that fear of bringing back sad memories if I ask them as well. If my father suffered so much as the legends said, it would be cruel to just remind him of his past.

Devil? Oh, Devil! He is the great undefeated wolf, leader of one of the greatest packs of old Moladion, assassin and… Granddad. It is a privilege to be able to call him such. What happened in Diveen some time ago only added to the questions in my head. I needed to understand. Why did he do that? Was it true? Perhaps someone was willing to incriminate him! I needed to find out and much more. As Voltaire disappeared within the trees, I barely took another step forward to keep going on my search for him before Devil’s taller and bigger form emerged from the shadows. He approached and stopped just feet away from me. I looked at him, trying to contain the awe in my eyes.

His ears flicker and mine just mimicked the movement once. It… Had been so long and I never took some time to talk to him. His words bring more confusion to my head. Bad wolf? There is no… Bad in him, no… I was silent for a second. I...

- It is true then…- my head turned back to look back, - Voltaire truly is a good tracker…
My ears pricked forward before looking back at him.

- It is hard to tell the right reason I am here. Firstly... You're not bad, no... But in short, I wanted to understand… There are just too many questions in my head; and worry. - I took one step forward - … I should have come after you long ago. But I guess, better late than never…

I smiled sheepishly and lowered my head slightly, feeling some awkwardness sinking in.

- You and dad had always been a mystery for me. You know; I’ve always felt so small when the others told me those stories… About how you were great in battle and how every single wolf failed to defeat you. About how my dad trained and worked and how he fought in great battles and became the Avenging Angel… The stories were never enough, though… I wanted to hear them from you. From dad. But I don’t know.. I never felt good enough to ask you; Well, who am I... The son of Amir... Nothing more. So after some time and an advice from a close friend I raised my head and dedicated my time to train so perhaps someday I could sit beside you and listen to your tales.

My tail waved. I really spent hours preparing this to tell him. Rehearsing, repeating it in my den to myself. I admire him, I loved to hear their stories repeated over and over again as they told to each other in Diveen. I felt a smile every time they were mentioned. But felt sad for being so small, so little compared to them. So I wanted to be more, to train and become a great warrior so I could have the honor to sit with Devil and my father and listen to their story once more, but this time… From them. But I paused for a second, before proceeding.

- I need to ask you… Why?

My ears lowered. The last thing I wanted to do was remind him of what he did. But I needed it, I needed to know. For a good reason…
