Even without their telepathic bond, Danny could practically hear Sol's internal laughter at the deity's extremely startled expression. While the tiger would turn into a big, terrified baby at the mere mention of Allianah's name, he'd become more accustomed to Khasekhemwy (helped, no doubt, by Khase's obvious discomfort around him). Danny kicked Sol, trying to keep the movement subtle, in hopes that that laughter wouldn't become external and confused - or offend - the god. The boy and tiger traded a confused, and slightly worried (on Danny's end at least), look at Khase's uncertain mumble about their last lesson. It had been quite some time since they'd had a class - or even seen each other - and it was enough that Danny had grown concerned. He cleared his throat again, trying to figure out how to answer without making it seem awkward.
"Well, sir, we were just in the neighborhood and thought we'd, um, check in and see if there was anything you needed, um, assistance with?" he said finally, sounding as hesitant as Khase had. "It's actually been, um, a few weeks, sir." He hurried to add: "But I'm sure you've been really busy lately, and if you don't have time..."
Boy and tiger watched as the deity lit a match, startling himself and dropping it on the table. Danny and Sol traded nervous looks again. Were the deities really so... lost without their magic that something as small as a match could scare them?
"I brought some pie," he said, pulling a carefully wrapped pan from his overfull bag. It was cherry, still slightly warm, and Danny had had to fight the urge to nibble at it the whole way here. "I don't know if you're hungry but I thought..."
Danny shrugged awkwardly, not really sure how to proceed. Something about the disarray in Khasekhemwy's home set him on edge, as if... As if it were a visible sign that things were just not right. Maybe he could just tidy up a bit, if the god was distracted... |
