There was something beautiful about spring. Maybe it was the way that everything seemed so green, so bright, so new and exciting. Or maybe it was the sound of birds chirping to their young, or the sound of mice scampering around to find food for their cubs. Surrounded by all sorts of families, Antoinette felt herself pining for her own family, lost to her years ago. Though she was forever grateful to Samil and his family for taking her in, they were not and could never be a replacement to the family that she had lost. She couldn't fall into a depression about it though, she had responsibilities now, to Samil and the rest of his family. Annie supposed, in a way, that they were her family too, but she was hesitant to refer to them as such. In any event, she at least had a stable home and skills that she wouldn't have possessed otherwise.
Now that she knew how to hunt and use her size to her advantage, the world seemed a lot less scary than it had been. Antoinette felt as though she could deal with things now, or, at least better than she had previously been able to. There was something empowering about being able to take care of herself, but secretly she missed being catered to like she had been as a princess. The thought led her to think about her father again and she laid her head on her paws, breathing out a sad sigh.
The slight femme narrowed her mismatched eyes, standing up and shaking out her well-kept coat, looking suddenly determined and perhaps a bit annoyed at herself.
"Je ne vais pas m'apitoyer sur mon sort."
(I won't feel sorry for myself.)
She fell into her mother tongue easily when she was alone, it was a comfort in this distant land so far from where she had come from. Antoinette waved her tail slightly, glancing around the rocky area. Perhaps today would be a good day to do some exploring and see if she would come across another soul. |
