Enocra Woodland

Pine, spruce and firs alike...
Dense coniferous forests cover the woodlands, with clearings, paths and the occasional wildberry shrub throughout. Pine, spruce and fir make up much of the forest in the east, with the forest becoming swampier in the west towards Mecor Valley. In the west, cypress trees dominate, with fallen trees creating bridges across and throughout the stillwaters.

Death Makes Angels of Us All

death makes angels of us all and gives us wings
where we had shoulders smooth as ravens claws.

I move quietly through the tall grass pleased with my kills. I know my Savior is slumbering away within the cool dark den and I hope she appreciates the gift I offer. I know she is taking care of the two rambunctious boys. I do my part to help. It is the least I can do. In a way I like them. They are not related to me by blood, but they don’t seem to mind it. I don’t even think they’ve realized it. I never grew up with a brother or a sister and I never really knew how to play. So, when these two ruffians began to chew on me, pounce on me, or tug my ears and tail it had taken me a few moments to figure out that all they wanted to do was play. I do not mind it now, but I can feel their teeth are not as babyish as before. It won’t be long until their teeth grow and they can actually do serve damage. So, I allow them to use my kills as new tools to chew on. Though I do bring them today the chance to learn, the chance to see, that they are predator and they are above all. Mother had taught me such things at their age before I was weaned. They should at least learn I think. I am sure will not mind so much. I am certain they will be able to hunt and kill their prey most efficiently.

My crimson banner sways side to side in a friendly manner as I see the smaller, lighter male, his fiery eyes remind me so much of his Mother. I playfully jerk my ebony crown away from him, so that his paws could not get near my face, a soft playful growl rumbles in the back of my throat. It is the dark movement out of the corner of my eye that makes me turn my head in the direction of the smallish black pup sneaking forth. I observe him quietly and notice how he moves, it is slow, but deliberate. It is when he lunges and sinks his teeth into one of the rabbits’ dangling paws do my eyes widen, and I gently shake my head back and forth, in a playful manner. If he wanted a piece of my prize then he would have to work for it. I can feel his small form tug as he keeps his firm grip on the bunny’s’ paw. I see the lighter pup come to pounce on him and I cannot help, but give a soft snort with amusement. I can hear the flesh of the rabbit being strained and I lower my head slightly so that the dark pup wouldn’t fall from so far.

As he bounds away and hides himself within the shade of a nearby rock I watch as his bushy small tail wraps around himself, and I listen to his puppyish growl. Slowly I drop the rabbits to the ground and I allow my own obsidian and crimson frame to bristle, my black lips pull back and reveal my much larger and sharper bloodstained teeth. The low growl that rumbles within my throat overpowers his puppyish rumbling and I do this for a moment until I stop and give him a playful bark. It is good he knows how to defend what he owns now. I look over to the lighter pup and I quickly press my muzzle into his side, as if to knock him over, and very quickly do I grab the rabbits and proceed to walk before he tries to pounce on my face again. When I reach the outside entrance of my Saviors den I walk inside for a moment and drop one of the rabbits off for her, and when I emerge from the shadows I allow myself to lie down along the beaten path outside the den. Placing the rabbit between my paws I look over to the two boys as I tilt my head in my direction, beckoning them to come.

“Come and I will teach you how to kill.”

I look over to the lighter pup and give him a small smile before my bright violet eyes look over to the one that was so far away. I position the rabbit so both could see as I speak calmly.

“All prey will die if you get their neck…over here. You put your teeth around their neck, like so, and slam down on it.”

I place my jaws around the neck of the rabbit and press into it slowly as if to show an example of what I was saying how they ought to attack their prey. I let go of the neck and gently press the rabbit towards the lighter wolf my tail swaying side to side along the ground.

“Would you like to try?”
