((ooc: open post! meet Madeline! Maddie has never done a lot of things, including spend much time with others her own age. She's looking to make acquaintances, I suppose. Maybe someone who would leave the castle with her and engage in falconry, or hunting? Madeline has no real goals, at the moment, she's just been pestering me to post her ^__^... note, I am a slower poster, usually only post a few times mid-week.))

She'd been at the castle well over a month now, and Madeline found she was settling into a pleasurable routine. Every morning as the sun rose, she read in the library. Madeline read everything: histories, biographies, novels and her personal favorite, the romances. Mornings in the library were by far, the best part of being at the castle. She'd pause her reading at about half-past six and watch the East facing windows. The dawn always came with a splendor of pink-gold light which filled the library and reflected off the shiny hardwood furniture and gold-embossed book spines. As the pinks faded to the sunny yellow of the summer sun, Madeline would set her books aside and snuff the candles. She'd take her breakfast with the other serving girls and then get to her tasks.

In the absence of the royal court, she found herself doing household chores much like she had in her previous residence at the Vale. Cleaning rooms, gathering flowers and filling vases, keeping the younger girls on task...in particular the laundry girls were awful about sneaking off into dark corners and spending hours gossiping. It kept her occupied, but the work did nothing to fill the dreamy longing she had for the bustle of court life. She'd so much rather be a lady-in-waiting.

After dinner, Madeline always spent time in the gardens. She wasn't the gardener, but she had a knack for plants and it helped ease her troubles after work. After an hour or two of weeding, planting and harvesting, she was off to bed. Rinse and repeat, as they say. She took the weekends off and spent her Sundays in quiet solitude. Madeline was a strange bird, in that she kept with a religion called, "Christianity." She hadn't realized how foreign her beliefs were until the very first Sunday in the castle. Madeline had walked from one end of the grounds to the other, followed by her familiar, Nanook. The two of them had searched high and low and found exactly zero chapels. They did stumble into a tall, narrow room with a plaque that read, "for worship" but all statues and tapestries were of different deities and it made Maddie rather uncomfortable.

Feeling at a loss, she had finally found herself back in the library. The extra-large room was as quiet as a sanctuary and rarely disturbed by anyone except herself. That Sunday she'd not read books, but instead prayed and reflected on her week. It was a very clean, pure life that Maddie lived and the young woman often found herself on the outside of her person, looking down at "Madeline" and being so frustrated. Being, "good" and "pure" was just...not fun.

Anyway, on this particular Sunday she was feeling rebellious and after kneeling for an hour saying her prayers, she decided the wander the castle halls in search of entertainment. God would certainly not begrudge her having a little fun.
