With fall comes darker colors and that means I can blend in almost perfectly with the tall grasses of the plains of Asteraia. I grin to myself as I practice stalking, pouncing through the grass at invisible opponents and snarling as I land, scratching and tearing at invisible flesh. Some may think of it as child's play but it's my way to train and I make sure I do something to build muscle every day. If I'm going to be a great fighter some day, I need to train my body even while it's growing. The new alpha will see the strength in me. Everyone will. I'm even more determined knowing that Kronos is no longer at my side. I need my brother and I always will but with him in Diveen, I feel the need to prove myself even more. Some day I will meet with him again and when I do, I want something to be proud of.
I've been waiting rather impatiently for the alpha female to come seeking me out. I know it was a daring move to stand in front of so many and declare myself her future lead warrior but I meant every word and I aim to prove it. Whatever task she lays out for me, I'll be sure to devote myself to it until it's done. She told me we would be going on a hunt and I've been practicing every day, just waiting on that chance. I look up, my senses tingling the minute she arrives outside the den I took up for myself. I'm far too old to be living in the same den as my parents so I chose one near the outskirts of the pack lands so I could keep a better eye on the borders. If I'm going to be any good at defending them for the alpha, I need to be near so I can hear and see trespassers.
I stride out to her with confidence in each step because I was raised to be proud of everything I am and everything I do. Some may see it as arrogance. My blue eyes shine brightly like sapphires as I stop before her, remembering to dip my head in respect to her and her rank. I'm still rather curious of her scars and I'm a little disappointed that she didn't bring the black beast Tobias with her since I had originally planned on him being my trainer but I'm sure she's just as qualified. She has the scars of experience and she won the fight to this pack so that has to show something. At her words, I tilt my head a little with curiosity. "Alright, I'm ready." I assure her.
As she turns to walk away, my ears at first flicker in uncertainty but I fall into step behind her, managingin to catch up rather easily to walk at her right flank so that she can still lead but I don't feel like a long lost puppy trailing their mom. I make my steps as silent as her own, not sure yet if the one I will be sparring knows we're actually coming. It wouldn't surprise me if she found a strong loner wolf for me to spar or something, just pick a fight out of nowhere and see how I do. I don't mind if that's the case. As we head into the rocky terrain, my curiosity only goes up but I keep my patience about me the best I can, my jaw tightening as I try to keep from asking the questions going through my mind.
When she stops, I pull up beside her, glancing around before I pick out the creature she's talking about. I note her smirk and I return a mischeveous one of my own, my eyes glinting with anticipation as my tail lashes the air behind me. I nod at her words, turning to face her. "Don't worry about me. I'm a survivor." That smirk only widens before I turn and launch myself after the lion. It snaps its head around, hissing at me with bright yellow eyes as I stop and widen my stance, my tail curving over my spine in challenge. I curl my lips back, a vicious snarl erupting from my throat. "Here, kitty, kitty, kitty." I chant to it teasingly. The cougar yowls and steps forward, slapping her giant forked claws at me but I dash back, snapping at the offending limb. Taking off again, I circle around but she spins quickly, keeping me in her sights, her own tail curling about her defensively. Too bad, I was going to take a bite out of it.
Going for plan B, I dart in, snapping at her face and the bait works. She opens her mouth wide and snarls, slapping her paw at me again but this time I duck under it and snap up at her elbow. I manage to grab hold and she yowls in pain and anguish, jerking her limb back but I feel the skin tear in my jaws. She retaliates with her mouth, lunging down as I pull back but I made a mistake of stopping in one place too long to bite instead of keeping my body on the move so she takes advantage, her jaws closing around the scruff of my neck. Instantly I realize my mistake, a yelp escaping my jaws before I can stop it as she grabs hold and starts to shake, bringing both fore limbs up to wrap around me and hold me tightly. I know this could easily be my death if I don't do something. I can feel her weight pressing on my head and shoulders. She's trying to take me to the ground so she can finish me off, rip into my throat and stomach. I know I've got to think of an exit plan and fast.
I move backward with her weight bearing down, dragging her back with me and the moment I see her feet roll out from under her, I suddenly launch forward, pulling her back end under my feet as I snap onto her tender underside and start to shake and dig in with my teeth, biting repeatedly to try to create as large a wound as I can. The plan works and she releases her hold on my bloody scruff, yowling again and I feel her sharp claws drag down my shoulders. She's on her back benaeth me now but I know that won't last long. She's already digging into my stomach with her back claws, scratching at me to get me off as her front claws aim for my face. Taking my bid for freedom, I dodge and dart back as quickly as possible, feeling her claws drag across my muzzle but it could have been a lot worse.
She rolls back to her feet quicker than I thought possible, facing off with me again as another hiss drips from her blood stained jaws. I can tell she's hurting from the stomach wounds but she got me pretty good too. My shoulders sting with every move of my muscles and every movement of my neck makes a burning sensation in my scruff. My stomach is stinging from all the scratches I'm sure I'll find there later and the air suddenly seems filled with the smell of blood. I move around her in a slow circle, both of us keeping our eyes and ears focused constantly on the other. I wonder vaguely how long the alpha expects me to "spar" with this big cat because I'm only got so much blood to lose and I'm not about to back down without being told.
