Aplos Riverside

Moladion’s powerful, winding river...
Aplos River is a broad, slow-moving river originating from somewhere beneath the mountains of Spirane and feeding Iromar’s moors in the south. The northern parts of the river are known for their strong currents, with the water becoming slow moving in the south. The riverbanks vary along its course, ranging from soft hummock grasses to small groups of pine, and sometimes nothing but pebbles and sand. Crossing can be difficult at times, but it can be swam or bridged by fallen trees or boulders alike.

It had been a curious thing, the way Pan had left to Diveen that day. There had been a call, she had heard, that had summoned those that desired a piece of power within Moladion. Never had she expected him to answer it and yet, he had left the borders with such confidence, she had wondered if she needed to follow - after all, despite her unwavering love for Spirane and its wolves, she understood well that she would not feel... whole if she had been apart from him. Whatever the case, he had returned and with it, some sense of normality had. Normality had become hard to come by as it were; Diveen had changed, Asteraia had changed and the mountain had been shaken by the death of Heyel. It had set a rather... unusual mood surrounding the slopes of Spirane, and it put her on edge. She had no idea how to deal with the emotions for they were not only hers but the emotions of an entire pack, an entire family. Some nights, she had merely taken to departing into the lowest region of her den, hiding away from it all.

Eventually, however, she knew she would need to get away from it - if only for a day, to clear her mind and put it all into perspective. Still, she did not feel right leaving entirely - or too far, at least - and so she had merely taken down the slopes to the southern side of the mountain. From there, she could see right down to the marshes of Iromar if she squinted. It seemed like the right day to begin putting herself back together and so, with a sigh, she had crossed the borders into the thin woodland. The moment she left direct sight of the mountain, she had begun to feel the air lighten - it seemed thinner, less dense with negativity and uncertainty. Here, she needn't be reminded of her personal pain: in the clarity of silence, she needn't think of Faol'an and Risk, of Iskra and Jaylah and all those she had felt the loss of. It was freeing, in a sense, and yet the faintest memory of Litherum began to summon her to the sound of water rushing against smooth rock. Water had always called to her. With a smile, she knew she could not say no today. It felt right, after all and, well, things hadn't felt quite right in so long.

As she broke the treeline, however, her eyes were met immediately with the dark form of another. He stood in the waters (just as she had planned to do) and seemed distant to the world - or at least, perhaps not entirely there. She had always been good at reading expressions thanks to her nature, but also because it had fast become a necessary thing in Moladion: so few seemed willing to show their pain, or their true feelings. It had become an invaluable skill. Immediately, though, she felt her own features turn up into a kindly smile - an instinct, it seemed. It seemed only natural to smile across at him as she ambled to the river's bank. She waved her tail and slowly, she dipped a single paw into the water, testing its warmth with a refreshed, quiet sigh to herself. Hopefully she wasn't intruding and yet, for now, she had faith that she had exited the forest at just the right moment and just the right time. That had to be it, right?

"It's the right day for it, isn't it?"

She spoke with a tender voice, flashing a glance up to the stranger with a small grin. Her eyes always had a light in them, a certain warmth that she hoped would translate across to him. She hadn't come to be a bother, or for any real reason at all. She just needed a break and who knew? Perhaps taking a break with a stranger was what she really needed.
