Let’s go on an adenvture! She said, It will be fun! We won’t even leave the Peak! You can do it!
Adelheid had been easily talked into venturing into the higher peaks of the mountains by the words of her friend. Her sister had often told her stories of spirits and creatures that lived just below the surface of the water and just above their heads in the skies. Every time she had taken a moment to listen to these faeries and sprites she could have sworn she heard them, but then Jetta would make a comment about them resting or being elsewhere. She had grown frustrated with these failures until she had met Taika. The other filly’s staunch believe in these things and her encouragement that they were everywhere was enough to relight the belief in the young friesian. It was these words and the belief and faith in the imagination of another that had spurred her to follow the much smaller filly up the foothills of their home.
Together they poked through the night, having slipped away from their respective mothers. Taika, her smoky hues making her look like a muted mist in darkness topped with burning red on her tufting mane and tail. Her coat black as the night around them, all that could be seen of Adelheid were her bright blue eyes and her one white hind hoof. Side by side in the late season the two friends were already staunchly different in size. Though older, Taika was obviously smaller and petite, whereas Adelheid would wear her mother’s friesian bloodline proud and tall. The two, however, were never side by side.
Taika was racing ahead of her companion, following the breeze or racing the night wind. She dashed this way and that, jumping from one cliff to another, pretending to be one of the goats she had seen from afar on the cliff. She giggled and laughed, half to herself, half with the rest of the world. Once they were high in the cliffs the two decided to play hide and seek. With her endless energy Taika had declared herself the hider before Adelheid could really even agree to the game. The bigger filly chuckled and agreed, trotting slowly after her friend as she went to hide.
Taika pranced all around, trying to find a perfect hiding spot on the cliffs. She was excited to be able to play with her friend, usually impeded by mother’s, they had not explored together in a while. At last she found a promising trail and cantered up it! Only to stop dead at the sight of a sleeping stallion.
”ADELHEID!” Her voice cut through the air in excitement. This was a rare thing indeed! ”There is a stallion hiding in the mountains! He has come to sneak in and steal away our secrets!”
The friesian picked up her pace and raced to where the voice came from.
Don’t let him get away! He could already know too much!
