aurora borealis- noun plural: An aurora that occurs in northern regions of the earth. Also called northern lights.

In the middle of a dense forest of coniferous trees lies the Aurora Borealis pack, its name coming from its location. At certain times of the year, the northern lights appear, dancing almost magically in the sky. A narrow trail leads you through the close evergreens. Giving into temptation, you begin moving your paws. By venturing into this territory, you are venturing into a land belonging to a pair of feared leaders. You have heard rumors of them...but you decide to take your chances and hope that the tales of blood and death are merely fabricated stories to scare wolves.

You have walked nearly five minutes before you realize the sound of paws stepping somewhere from behind. Deciding that you've made a mistake, you quickly turn around, but find that you cannot go any further. Standing before you is one of the mighty kings you've heard of. His blood red pelt clings over perfectly toned bands of muscle. But that isn't what causes such fear in your veins. One of his amber eyes has a horrid, bleeding scar across it, and his good eye seems to stare right through you. His face is expressionless, giving off none of his intentions. You cower away as his jaws part.

"I'm Hell Demon."

His voice was deep and cut through the air like a hot knife through butter. Right where he left off, another voice picks up from behind you. You whirl around and find yourself facing another male with steely muscles beneath his pelt, which seems to consist of every shade of brown. He had startled you, and you're amazed how you hadn't at all detected his approach.

"And I am Ghost...we're the alphas of Aurora Borealis."

His deep voice was laced thickly with a Native American accent. His own golden eyes are directing a harsh glare your way. Now you're caught in the middle...your breathing has become heavy in your panic and you're not sure which to face.

"You've foolishly trespassed into our territory. You face the one called Hell Demon's whose voice is once more addressing you. Get out, or become a corpse along our border."

It's obvious they mean business. So now it's up to you...take your chances and stay, or heed their warning and waste no time getting out with your life.

Time felt as if it had slowed to a stop and the ashen Queen was stuck trying to claw her way back into the present. After the birth of her sons, Vladimir and Castiel she had preoccupied with keeping them fed, cared for and they had been confined in the den where she could keep a constant watch over them. But now, the boys were older and out exploring. They hardly spent their days in the den and Sebring seemed to never leave. In actuality she had hardly left. She tended to her garden outside her and Kal’s den, but that was about it. Every once and a while she would go out on morning patrols with her mate but she hardly felt like doing anything, and it left her with a guilty conscience. She wanted with every part of being to get out and go talk with her pack mates, get know the little princess that the Ethiopian woman had left in their care, maybe even just go for a swim but her less than lack luster motivation left her curled up in the dark confines of the cave, by herself. She couldn’t figure out why she felt so unmotivated, with the pups gone and more independent she thought she would have felt free to go out more, but instead she felt compelled to wait for them at home in the rare occurrence that they might wander back needing something. That hardly happened, the boys were rather independent and though she knew that that characteristic would serve them well later on it pained her not to have them around as much. But she couldn’t stay like this forever, she needed to get out.

So against everything her body screamed at her, Sebring pulled herself up.

Slowly but surely ashen limbs stood tall, stretched out and the blood flow finally warmed up her limbs. Honey-gold orbs looked through the vines at the entrance seeing the glinting sunlight and as she brushed aside the tendrils the rays warmed her pelt thoroughly. A renewed sense of purpose started to build up within her breast and a small smile pulled at her lips. Still being within the privacy of the den she dropped to the ground and began to roll furiously against the grassy outcropping. She felt the loose and latent furs being pulled from her coat. Sure there would grass and leaves stuck in her pelt but they would be easily washed away in the river below. A soft sigh escaped her lips and she laughed a little at her childishness, she hadn’t felt this good in a while. The ashy lady rolled around a few more minutes before she rose up and started to climb down into the ravine. Just before reaching the bottom Sebring pulled up on a ledge looking over the river and without hesitation she jumped down into it.

The water rolled over her shoulder and above her head pushing her down under the waves. She felt a wave of fear wash over her, but she shoved it down and pushed with all her might. Her limbs throttled through the cool waters and pushed her crown up above allowing her to suck in a breath of air. She panted slightly with the effort and lack of oxygen in combination, but the fire in her muscles felt wonderful as did her light, clean coat. And to top it off a familiar resounding call rang out into the late morning, afternoon air – Kalgalath. He was summoning the entirety of Aurora for a pack meeting but it made her nonetheless happier. The ashen woman pulled herself out onto the other side of the river bank and shook away the fleeting water droplets while the sun dried away the rest. She leapt into a canter through the woods, letting muscle memory take her to the stony ledge that she had sat upon not long ago. And as the terra of Aurora Borealis blurred by her she smiled contentedly to herself, she had needed this.

She was far from being the first to answer her mates call, she actually seemed to be the last to arrive with the exception of a few members. Even her children had beaten her here. She slowed to a walk and when she came close enough she gave Vlad and Castiel each a kiss on the head before launching herself up to Kalgalath. Her claws scraped against the stone as she pulled herself up and before she was fully situated she pulled up close against Kal, I’ve missed you, my love. She cooed softly into his ear before placing a gentle kiss above his brow and nuzzling him. She turned her crown to look out upon the gathered group. She gave a small smile and dip of her head to each in greeting, but said nothing waiting for her mate to take reign of the situation and the final few to arrive.
