aurora borealis- noun plural: An aurora that occurs in northern regions of the earth. Also called northern lights.

In the middle of a dense forest of coniferous trees lies the Aurora Borealis pack, its name coming from its location. At certain times of the year, the northern lights appear, dancing almost magically in the sky. A narrow trail leads you through the close evergreens. Giving into temptation, you begin moving your paws. By venturing into this territory, you are venturing into a land belonging to a pair of feared leaders. You have heard rumors of them...but you decide to take your chances and hope that the tales of blood and death are merely fabricated stories to scare wolves.

You have walked nearly five minutes before you realize the sound of paws stepping somewhere from behind. Deciding that you've made a mistake, you quickly turn around, but find that you cannot go any further. Standing before you is one of the mighty kings you've heard of. His blood red pelt clings over perfectly toned bands of muscle. But that isn't what causes such fear in your veins. One of his amber eyes has a horrid, bleeding scar across it, and his good eye seems to stare right through you. His face is expressionless, giving off none of his intentions. You cower away as his jaws part.

"I'm Hell Demon."

His voice was deep and cut through the air like a hot knife through butter. Right where he left off, another voice picks up from behind you. You whirl around and find yourself facing another male with steely muscles beneath his pelt, which seems to consist of every shade of brown. He had startled you, and you're amazed how you hadn't at all detected his approach.

"And I am Ghost...we're the alphas of Aurora Borealis."

His deep voice was laced thickly with a Native American accent. His own golden eyes are directing a harsh glare your way. Now you're caught in the middle...your breathing has become heavy in your panic and you're not sure which to face.

"You've foolishly trespassed into our territory. You face the one called Hell Demon's whose voice is once more addressing you. Get out, or become a corpse along our border."

It's obvious they mean business. So now it's up to you...take your chances and stay, or heed their warning and waste no time getting out with your life.

Their laughter rang out around them and for that brief moment Sera didn’t worry about being trapped down here. Of course, in a way, they were laughing for that exact reason. If they didn’t continue their excursion then they really would be stuck. Going back the way they come was hardly an option now. “Aye, my lady!” Vladimir leapt back and his outline moved into a bow. Seraphina giggled. “Let us travel on ahead and see what secrets indeed we may discover!” The prince laughed again and returned to the firebird’s side, intertwining their tails together. “Very well, my good sir. On we go!” She played off of his jest with a grin. Vlad gently pulled her tail to signal that they were starting and she moved slowly. The prince was carefully placing his paws on the floor, testing for any potential danger zones and Sera stayed glued to his side so that she would not accidentally find one on her own. At least, that was her excuse for remaining pressed to Vladimir. The cave was no longer narrow enough justify it, that was plain to hear by the echoes.

For a while there was no exchange of words, merely the enjoyment of one another’s company. Then Vladimir turned his crown to face Sera, who was a few steps behind. “My… my grandfather is dead, you know. I never met him… but Jorah told father that he hails from my grandfather’s pack. And that Grandfather died, and that Father is to inherit that throne. But it is a few days journey from here, perhaps a week? And surely Dad cannot rule two places at once… Do you think Father will leave then?” The princess’ emeralds widened and she blinked at Vladimir. Surely Vladimir knew his father better than she did. “To go there? Will we all leave? Or… will he leave us? It would be an awfully big adventure, to move somewhere different. What was it like when you left your home?” Seraphina scrunched up her face in consideration of all of his questions. She didn’t know anything for sure, but for now the best course of action seemed to be putting the prince at ease. “I’m sorry about your grandfather. And that you never got to meet him.” She hadn’t met hers either, but if Kal was anything like his father than he must have been a great wolf. “I don’t think that your father will leave. Not without great difficulty, at least.” She said slowly, thoughtfully. “He’s been here a long time right? This is his home and he doesn’t seem like the type to just up and leave everything behind. If he did go… I guess that he’d take you and Cas and your mother. You’re his family after all. And I can’t speak for everybody in the pack, but I’d go with you.” Sera smiled at Vlad. Dante was here and if Sera left then her sister might not find her again. But, if it meant staying with Vlad, Sera would go. “Well, I was young when I left home, so it wouldn’t be the same as you leaving. Still, I missed it at first. It was all I knew, even if only for a short period of time. And it was scary sometimes, being alone in a foreign place and not really being able to protect myself. But it was worth it, in the end. After all, I met you, didn’t I?”

“Sera!” She had no sooner finished than her name was falling from Vlad’s mouth. The princess cocked her head at him, but saw him look up at the ceiling. Saw him. Seraphina had been so preoccupied with her little speech that she hadn’t paid much attention to her surroundings, but she now realized that there was, in fact, light. Now she looked up as well and the ceiling appeared to be covered in stars. Obviously not real stars, unfortunately, but close enough. “If we can knock a few of those loose and they fall we can knock them around and light the way… or even better yet perhaps they will fly around we can see a cavern and what choices we have and find a way out!” With that Vladimir began to bark, filling the cave with sound. Nothing happened. Sera looked around for anything that she could stand on. That way, she could leap at the ceiling at knock something loose - if the lights were caveworms - or scare them if they were fireflies. That was the plan anyway. There was a decently sized boulder close at hand and with the low ceiling, Seraphina figured that it would be pretty easy to reach. Skirting to the side, the princess clambered up on the dimly lit rock. It was slick with dampness that reflected the teal light and reminded her of the river that she had slipped into. If not for Vladimir, she wouldn’t even be here. Squaring her shoulders, the ess crouched and wiggled her tail a bit, then leapt at the glow, swatting with her paws. She felt at least something fall and could her it hit the floor before she herself landed in a heap. Emeralds scanned the floor and Sera grinned triumphantly at two caveworms that lay near the vargs’ feet. Her crown turned to the prince. “Do you think two is enough? I’m sure I could get some more if it’s not, but we could be here all day then.”
