The forest stands tall and lush here; ancient trees reach weather-twisted arms to the sky, fighting monster-like storm clouds back with their interlacing fingers. Shadow seems to lurk everywhere you look, but it spills calmly, coolly, inspiring a sense of stealthy calm or protection rather than unease. That is, if you've forgotten what kind of creature might be stalking just out of sight...Abendrot is a land cradled by the dark woods on all sides; in the center, some of the larger trees stay behind to reveal a small plateau - a citadel where this pack can gather and defend itself from invaders. There are, of course, softer sides to the land. Clearings here and there allow the sun to throw down its rays in incongruously resplendent gold showers. Ignore the lingering scents of blood spattered here and there along the borders: those do not concern you. The river on one edge of the territory is playful enough when it hasn't been gorged by violent rain. You can choose to note the ragged claw marks raked down tree trunks and the forest floor as friendly "Home Sweet Home" signs, if you wish.

All who treasure loyalty, order, victory, and the occasional indulgence of raw visceral pleasure are welcome, once they've been approved by the ever-watchful eyes of Abendrot's Alpha. But keep one thing in mind: no matter what your motive, this is not a fool's Paradise. This is the land of soldiers, assassins, and spies. This is ABENDROT.

Make up your mind quickly and prepare to prove your worth. You wouldn't want to add to those blood spatters, would you...?

MEN SHOULD KEEP THEIR WORD,

Large paws traveled along a familiar path that required no brain power, it was the same path that the male took everyday on his regular border patrols. It might seem dull, and often was, but it was a necessity. He knew that other wolves did similar actions as he did, their scents mingled with his, but he knew that an alpha needed to do their share of work as well. He couldn’t just stay within the packs borders and assume that the other pack members would do the work for him. And he wanted to make sure that his scent was a strong one on the trees and brush that marked his pack. Any varg that traveled here would know that this pack had an alpha that was ready to defend it at any time. But it would turn out to not be a boring border patrol as so many of them were, but that Grey Wind would have some company.

As the male walked along, the vocals of a familiar female reached his audettes as she said his name, striding over and standing directly in front of him. He had assumed that she would just join him in his walk, not block his path as the darker colored female was doing, but a playful smirk was on her features, not a threating one that might mean other intentions. But he was not worried about this female’s intentions, Halina had been his Beta since he took over for Kershov, and if she stopped him in a border patrol to talk about something, he would give in to her request. The grey brute stopped, a quizzical expression on his features, wondering what it was that she had come out here for. ”Halina.” The brute didn’t question her, knowing that she was one to get to her point quickly, but what she said was not something that he expected. Halina had not been here as long as he had, but she had been here for quite some time and he was surprised to hear that she would be leaving. Grey Wind listened though, knowing that love was a powerful emotion to make vargs do things they normally would not do. Ygritte had never been an active pack member, but had always followed her mate to pack meetings and had joined this pack for her. It only made sense that Halina did the same for the female she loved.

She went on to talk about Macaria, wanting to train her apparently so she would be more Abendrot appropriate. When Grey Wind had first brought the female here he had not expected her to be a permanent resident, but that was what had happened. That same emotion that led Halina to leave her pack had led Grey Wind to keep a female that was not the traditional Abendrot type with him. Really he had been lucky that Kershov had not killed her, or him, as he had originally planned to deal with her and that he had become the next alpha to ensure the femme’s safety before she had made her recent transformation. He knew that some wolves had questioned his judgement when he saw the fearful and seemingly useless wolf with him, but she was stronger now and would fit in with them all here and be of worth. After a moment Grey Wind responded, ”I am sorry to hear that you will be leaving Halina, you are a great asset to this pack, but I understand why you are doing it and I appreciate you telling me and giving the pack some warning of your leave. Will Ambrosia and Lupin be leaving with you and Ygritte as well?” He paused for a moment to let her answer before he continued, ”Abendrot will always be in debt of your continued loyalty though, and will call on you if need be, but will try not to bother you and your mate. I’m sure Macaria will appreciate some training from a true warrior as yourself as well. Her change has made her more like the wolves this pack needs.”

Halina had always been a blunt wolf, not sugar coating things, and it was no different with Grey Wind as their conversation went on. “We have not decided our exact departure date but will of course keep you appraised of such. Now… tell me what exactly you did to fuck up your relationship with Macaria?” The alpha had been around her long enough to not be shocked by her words or question, but he was not entirely sure how to answer. He was still somewhat in denial about his feelings for her, not realizing that this was the biggest problem and what had driven Macaria away. His lack of telling and showing her that he did indeed care for her and want to be with her. ”I don’t know why she ran off this time. But I’m sure she’ll be back and I can rectify the situation.” The male had never been one to talk about or show his feelings, not since he had left his birth pack all those years ago, and one question from the scarred female would not change that, though if she pried more he may say more than he meant to and come to the true conclusion of his problem with Macaria.

Footsteps of another approaching varg reached Grey Wind’s ears, and they turned to listen to the sound, the familiar scent of another warrior reaching his nares. Yellow orbs turned to see Marx approaching the pair, “My king....my lady Halina, beautiful day, isn't it?” The brute nodded his head in greeting to the other male, still curious as to what he had been up to when he had been absent, but pleased to see that he was still here. ”Marx, it is good to still see you within these borders. Have you been keeping busy?” Grey Wind knew too well what could happen when wolves of Abendrot grew bored and the destruction that could occur, and the alpha had not done much to keep the pack active as of late, so he could only assume that others were entertaining themselves. The trio of wolves that were now gathered grew even more though, as the appearance of another female came into his vision. Nzingha was back it seemed, his niece who had been living with his brother Summer. The female had come to him recently, the same day that Marx came back, but she looked much better now. She still had some obvious healing to do, but she was not as skinny and there were wounds that were healing and looked much healthier than before. She had run off, upset and crying that Kershov was not here, and Grey Wind had assumed that she had gone back to Summer, who had always been a much kinder and gentler wolf than he himself was.

The grey lupine raised a curious brow at her approach, wondering what it was that drove her back here and not to his brother. Nzingha approached as a submissive, apologetic wolf, her tail tucked between her legs and guilt on her features and Halina seemed amused by this appearance.
“Uncle, Marx, I must apologize for my prior rudeness. I was quite out of sorts, but no excuse is acceptable for how I previously acted. May I offer up my apologies and make amends, and then hastily and perhaps prematurely ask for your help?” Grey Wind appreciated the apology, but was unaware that there was something happening that she would need his help with, and his yellow orbs looked to her curiously. ”Thank you for the apology, I know what grief does to others, but you were lucky it was another fellow Abendrot member you showed such weakness in front of before and not an enemy who would have used that against you. But what is it you need my help with?” When his niece went on to ask who Halina was, he turned to the female, letting her introduce herself as she was more than capable of doing so.
