The cooler months of spring were well behind them. The sun grew hotter with each passing day, causing more animals to become active during the morning or dusk hours. Including Halcyon. All day, the alpha had been busy napping within his den, snoring gently as the day wore on. Aster was gone, no doubt getting up to some kind of mischief. She had recently tried to "steal" Eden away from Glorall, causing the whole pack to become alert and… less than friendly towards the plains. He loved his mate dearly and found it hard to scold her like she was some kind of child. Trust was important to him and he trusted that there was some reason behind Aster's madness. Perhaps he and Jinx would travel to Glorall and do some damage control. The last thing Asteraia needed was an enemy for no reason.
A loud and rather annoying magpie screeched from outside the den, stirring the wolf from his slumber. Yawning heavily, Halcyon finally emerged from the cool hole to see a brilliant sunset. A smile spread across his face as the sky burst into an array of reds, oranges, and deep purples. All the while, the sound of hungry puppy cries filled the area. His heart beat with pride. This was the life he had always wanted, a peaceful existence, surrounded by family and the strong youth of their future. Asteraia was thriving! Unable to stop himself, the alpha lifted his head and sang a song of pure joy. The notes echoed all around, sparking many others to howl with him.
Once the song was finished, the red wolf moved away from his hole and towards the center of the pack. There was still some light left in the ending day and he wanted to make sure all the new mothers were well. He stopped by several dens, gently poking his head in and asking if anything was needed. Then, he padded away, towards the lone tree on top of a small hill. From here, he could see all of the plains stretched out before him. To the north, the large bison herd was bedding down, encircling the young within a protective barrier. To the south, the trees of the forest swayed softly in the breeze. Peace was all around him and Halcyon couldn't stop himself from smiling.
