FIRE BURNS WHERE IT FALLS

They walked together slowly down the beach, leaving two sets of hoof prints in the wet, sea foam soaked sands as the gentle waves served as a relaxing backdrop for their pleasant conversation. This land was gentle, quiet and unchallenging, yet Maslakhat cannot help but feel as though he was at home. Perhaps it was only because of Keyik, a familiar face and welcome companion. She was beautiful and capable, but he was definitely curious as to her plans for this place.

“Ah well,” he began. “I left the islands for a time to search for Yusuf, but I haven’t had much luck finding him.” Maslakhat paused a moment to consider the task Valve had handed off to him and whether or not it truly mattered that he hadn’t accomplished it. “It seems to be a fruitless search anyway.”

The thought briefly crossed his mind that perhaps Valve knew this and she had sent him away as a means of distraction. Suspicion bubbled just under the surface of his mind and he made a note to see if perhaps he could find out exactly what she was up to without her learning that he had returned. All his life he had obeyed her wishes without question, but the time they had spent apart only served to remind him that he had hardly made a name for himself on his own. If he wanted to change that, well he would have to maintain that distance.

“Keyik, do you have this place entirely to yourself?” He asked inquisitively with a mischievous glint in his eyes. “Planning anything… interesting?”
