Lunero Olivia de Costa Agua Brillante was rarely overwhelmed. He was a stallion who took most things in his stride, who accepted things as they were and moved on with his life. But as he emerged from the sea onto the unfamiliar sands of an unfamiliar land, he felt the sensation hit him hard in the chest. There was nothing particularly astounding about the landscape or climate; it was cooler and drier than he was used to, and the trees were a mix of common broadleafs and plain, uniform conifers. In the distance a great mountain lurked, but it was nothing compared to the craggy green cliffs that overlooked his homeland.
It was the sheer unfamiliarity of it all that affected him, and he suddenly longed to have Casimiro at his side with an intensity that left him breathless. They should have been experiencing this together. They had planned to travel for so long, and now here he was, doing it alone. It felt plain wrong.
Lunero snorted seawater from his nostrils and shook his waterlogged coat before moving inland. His hazel eyes roamed his surroundings and he committed them to memory, before turning his attention to the meadow before him. He had just picked a random stranger in the distance and begun to approach them when another stallion appeared from nowhere, wet tail swinging and jubilant voice breaking the quiet of the clearing. Lunero paused in his tracks and looked the stranger over with a wry smile. He was tall and handsome, with an Iberian build that would have made Lunero's mother proud, and it looked as if he had just arrived too.
Lunero approached the stranger and offered him a charming smile. "Si está buscando atención, buen señor, ya tiene la mía."
