Question about power play

Hey!

I am not much a roleplayer and was hoping for a little clarification?

Meryl had said something about how it was power play in our thread in taviora. Im a little confused since it was understood before hand that my character was allowed by her to steal those items. Granted its a long shot he would be so sneaky, but i felt rather clever for making up the fact that Juris simply tricked the guards and wasnt seen at all. I could be wrong but that didnt seem like powerplay to me. They dismissed all of his tactics for sneaking and somehow found him anyways so i feel like i had only equally met them back with something clever in order to avoid being seen. Is this not ok? Cant he not be that sneaky? It seemed rather harmless but please let me know.
