The Grotto

Disaster has struck!
Years ago, an earthquake broke open several entrances into a deep, winding series of subterranean systems. It was thought that deep below, underground rivers snaked their way below Moladion. Now, flooding in the Northern reaches of Moladion has proven this theory to be true.

The Grotto is almost entirely submerged. Many of the entrances are completely inaccessible, and those that are only extend a few hundred feet before ending in water. The lower entrances, however, act almost like a giant drain for Moladion. Water pours down into the Grotto's maw as powerful rapids and waterfalls, and large amounts of debris have build up throughout the area. It can be exceptionally dangerous to travel due to the risk of flash-flooding and dams suddenly breaking, but the Grotto does offer the most consistent access across the floodwaters because of those dams.

Note:The Grotto will return to normal once 25 posts have been completed (or at Staff discretion). During this time, new threads will receive a 'Surprise','Disaster', and prizes.

The floor had more or less stopped bucking beneath her when Aine heard the sound of another approaching. Her nose twitched as it recognized the familiar, comforting scent of her brother and her stunted tail bounced behind her as she lifted her dark head even as Janus shoved his nose into her neck and gave her a thorough going over. Despite laying down, Aine still wobbled slightly, her head bobbing or her body leaning slightly one way or another only to be abruptly pulled back to an even keel. It was little adjustments like this that the young woman hardly noticed as odd as it might seem to strangers.
Dark lips curled into a smile as she nuzzled her nose into Janus’ chest before pulling back to look up at him with eyes as pale as his were dark. He was being stern. Obviously he didn’t approve of her coming to find him. She figured he would have something to say about her taking the risk to travel, but she knew in her heart that he wouldn’t put up too much of a fuss. As attached as she was to the family that had raised them, Janus was her link to life. He was the constant in a world that seemed determined to turn itself upside down.
”Janus” Aine attempted to mimic her brother’s stern tone but there was far too much warmth and hidden laughter to be even remotely effective. ”I can fall just as easily there as I can anywhere. Besides, I wanted to see you.” She paused and gave him a pointed look. ”You’ve been skulking, brother.” Where with others she came off as--and perhaps was--uncertain and quiet, it was different with Janus. Despite his tendency to be a bit of a hovering fuss, she didn’t have to be self-conscious about her condition. Didn’t have to apologize if her depth perception went wonky and she ran into him. He was the only one who understood.
”The dizziness passed, I should be good.” Smiling, Aine began to push herself up, looking a little like a newborn fawn getting her legs under her for the first time, her tail pinwheeling to keep her balance until she had her paws fully under her. Standing in front of her brother, Aine swayed slightly, nothing alarming and truly quite normal for her. Just a faint rocking motion, never quite still. ”See? All good.”
