Enocra Woodland

Pine, spruce and firs alike...
Dense coniferous forests cover the woodlands, with clearings, paths and the occasional wildberry shrub throughout. Pine, spruce and fir make up much of the forest in the east, with the forest becoming swampier in the west towards Mecor Valley. In the west, cypress trees dominate, with fallen trees creating bridges across and throughout the stillwaters.

Since coming to Taviora, Magpie had felt a bit out of place and had done her best to stay out of the way. Zanon was training and occasionally they would slip out to the freelands to seek out a potential new pack to join. The forest was lovely and all but very crowded with little room for Zanon to excel in what he wanted to do. Even if the forests brought her some peace she would sacrifice anything for Zanon and Lefteris to be happy.

In an attempt to stay out from under foot and perhaps be a bit more useful, Magpie slipped into the woodlands often to find small game for her little family unit. Sometimes she even traveled further in hopes that she wouldn’t disrupt any hunting that was going on. The night before she’d heard the calls of hunting wolves as she lay curled up with Lefteris. It was odd that the pack would hold a hunt in the evening, but she wasn’t in a position to question it.

As the light of dawn filtered through the trees and the bright spring leaves, Magpie stretched and yawned outside their temporary den, her golden pelt catching fire as the dappled sunlight touched it. Knowing that she wasn’t likely to see Zanon for much of the day, Mags slipped away from Taviora and into the woodlands. Perhaps she could help the healers gather herbs or hunt little snacks for Zanon and Lefteris. Both would likely be grateful for a midmorning treat.

Smiling to herself and humming softly, Mags picked her way through the underbrush and tree trunks with the innate grace of a doe, her large ears twitching at the sounds of small mammals scurrying through the branches and foliage. There was something almost magical about these lands and she was content to enjoy them as long as she could before they moved on. Pausing to sniff here or there with no real urgency, Mags picked up the faint scent of another wolf and with no real goal in mind, idly followed the path until it faded entirely, mingled with other scents.

Lifting her head, Mags looked around and contemplated what she would do with her day when she heard a faint yip somewhere relatively close. Blinking, she twisted her head around, ears twitching as she attempted to pinpoint the direction the sound had come from. It had been unmistakably a pup and for a moment she wondered if one from the pack had gotten lost. Magpie took a few steps in the direction she thought she’d heard the sound from and was rewarded with a small voice call out for its mother. Picking up the pace, she stepped over a fallen branch and ducked around a tree trunk then paused, blinking against the sunlight that streamed down from the canopy. Once she could see properly, she looked around and her eyes landed on a little brown blob that nearly blended in with the hollowed out tree he was sitting in.

Definitely not one of the Taviora pups, but what was the little pup doing out here on his own? Brows knitted together in concern, Mags looked around, hoping that she might see some evidence of his mother then cautiously began to approach. ”Hello.” She called out, her voice soft and filled with warmth as she stopped near his hiding place but not close enough to startle him hopefully. Truly, what was a pup doing out here unattended? With what had happened to Iromar and Pine’s pups, she would think that people would be far more careful with their offspring.
