Ruieze Fields

Open fields and soft grass...
Ruieze stretches far in the midlands of Moladion, laced with streams that feed into Diveen and out of Asteraia at times. The fields are vast, filled with wildflowers and tall, soft grass; trees are sparse, as are rocks, but one can find small shrubs to hide amongst, and the grass itself. To the south of the fields, a Ruieze River widens, and the ground becomes sandy. There is a small, grassy island that can be reached from the banks, with water-birds often congregating on the island rather than the riverbanks.

Mabel had found that exploring was quite fun. She hadn't gone too far from home, mostly because Mama wouldn't let her get that far, but when she was distracted by Papa or Jaime, Mabel slipped away to see what she could see on her own. Feeling a bit bolder now that she was a little bit older, Mabel had decided that it was time for a real adventure.

Initially she'd merely intended to explore the packlands a bit more, maybe find out where some of the others lived, visit Ilya if she could find her. But then she'd gotten distracted by a bird. It was a black bird that shouted and hopped around and Mabel squealed and giggled as she chased after it, not realizing that it was leading her on a merry chase toward the edge of the packlands.

Mabel didn't realize that she'd wandered a little bit too far until she found herself looking out over a sea of grass. It was unlike any grass she'd seen in the ravine; tall and undulating. The bird was forgotten as Mabel looked back over her shoulder at the red rocks of her home. For a moment panic crept in, being out of sight and hearing rage of the den, but then she heard a whine. Blinking, remembering how she'd found Ilya clinging to the edge of a pit, she wondered if the other pup had wandered off and got lost.

Gathering up as much courage as she could muster, Mabel took a step into the waving sea of tall grass, eyeing the sky warily as it darkened. Mama was going to be upset with her for being gone so long. Then there was the matter of finding her way back. She hadn't exactly been paying attention. Deciding that she would worry about how to get back to the den once she figured out who had gotten themselves into trouble, Mabel pressed forward, reorienting herself when she heard another whine. "Hello? Are you lost?"

The last thing she wanted to do was get lost in the grass. It was taller than her head and it made her nervous not to be able to see the red rocks of her home. Poking her head through a clump of the grass looked around, not seeing anything at first. She was certain she'd heard a puppy whine. She'd heard Jaime whine enough that she could recognize the sound. This was definitely not the place for a ravine puppy to get lost. Rocks and crevices were more her speed. "Do you need help?"
