At Leisure Lake the sun is always shining and only a few stray clouds roam the open sky; paradise is the one word that really describes it. This beautiful lake is clean and refreshing, the very best place to swim and fish. Pups are known to play here while older wolves watch at the side, engaged in their own activities.

She understood that she was different from her older sister in just about every way. How could she not understand that? She saw it in the way they moved, her sister gracefully and without a sound, and she herself awkwardly, as if her body parts did not fit together. And then, of course, there was a matter of her horns – it did not matter that her mother bore horns as well, for her mother‘s horns were a graceful full rack carved from the largest and strongest of all the stags and bucks that ever were. But then again… Those were considered antlers, weren’t they? And Giaza‘s own set were definitely not graceful antlers, but god ugly horns stolen from the quite odd Jacob sheep. How she wished that she had none, like her sister Gwyn, or else had a lovely piece of architecture upon her scalp as a halo as did her mother. Anything but this, the two prongs of hard barricades, one that framed her face and the other curling up backwards as if she were a devil from one of her own nightmares. And she wished that her paws were all actually paws. She wants to be swift and silent like her sister, like her mother, but instead Giazakisa had four cloven homes, ones that clipped and clopped upon the ground wherever it was solid, or slipped and slid where it was soft. Only in the rare perfect middle ground did she make no sound and have good tread. Little did she know that in an adventure coming very soon, she would find out exactly what her hooves were good for. But even then, it may not matter, for no amount of skill, at least at this point in her life. For Giaza only sought acceptance, so even their benefit could not steal from her her desire to have strong, sharp claws and gripping pads. And, as if that was not all enough, her eyes marked her in one final detail as neither being pure wolf nor pure prey - she had none of the circular pupils that marked her carnivorous kind, but instead a pair of horizontal oblong ones as seen in a goat, or sheep. There was a point to this type of pupil, yes, but in prey animals, ones whose eyes laid on either side of their head for a wider space area of vision. But when placed into the sockets of a carnivore, who wanted to have instead have sharp detailed vision and focus rather than a range of vision, it made no sense. In truth, if it were up to her if she would switch her entire body and her entire life for that of her sister‘s. For although she knew all the ways in which she was different from her sister, she could not understand why she had been cursed so. It did not help that many of her siblings of her litter were different also… They did not seem to be as bothered by it as she was.

But despite her insecurities and her wallowing self-confidence, Giazakisa never hung tightly to her mother‘s side. For always there was that question that she was searching for the answer to-why her? Why these mutations? She had the realism that was it and ideology of both her father and her mother, I knew she would likely never find the answer… But she somehow still was a naïve optimist with a never ending hope that one day she would find the answer, and perhaps one day even find a way to reverse the mutation, or at least alter it to make it more pleasing to the eye. It did not matter that her mother had given up the idea of holding each of her litters to a trial, to weed out the weakest links and encourage only the strongest chains to Fleurish… Her sister Gwyneira beat it into her. It was not that Gwyneira was mean, but it was all shit ever known, all she had ever been taught, and so Gwyn saw in her younger sister only everything that was wrong with her, things that would give away her position, things that would make her an easy target in the trials. Perhaps some of this was driven because Gwyneira was jealous of the fact that Giaza and her littermates would never have to go through the horrors of the trial. If fact that Gwyneira head quickly turned into a battering ram against Giaza’s emotional while. It’s only proved to cause chia to further distance herself from the others, causing her to explore further and farther from home, looking for something, anything,. She said she was looking for answers… But perhaps she was really only looking for acceptance.

Springtime had nearly come to pass, and already in the middle of the day, the bright sun overhead battered against her, making each step twice the amount of effort and work. Once again, she silently cursed the heavy burden of horns up on her head for they weighed her down, and made her tired quicker then would any other normal pup. True, they were hardly more than arcing knobs as of right now, but she did not want them to grow any further. So she had charged along the shore of the sea, her tiny legs carrying her at a trot across the deep, wet sand. She was looking for a boulder that had been struck by a second one and broken, looking for the sharpest edge that she could find really, with the hope that she could saw the horns right off of her skull. But the only thing she had found recently were either large smooth boulders, the edges softened by the eons of time that had past with the waves of the water beating against them, or sharp but small pebbles, who could not stand up to the sawing motion required. But finally she saw one that would do, only it stood halfway up the cliff face… And she was not sure that she would be able to make it there.

By the gods… Can’t anything in my life be easy for once?

She swiped her right hoof towards the Earth, splattering sand into the air out of sheer frustration, not realizing that someone was approaching her, and quickly.
